Title: / Principal for Freedom Acres School
Reports to: / Assistant Superintendent/Special Education

SUPERVISES

Staff assigned to Freedom Acres School which include the following positions: Special Education Teachers, Administrative Assistant, School Nurse, Health Care Aides, Custodian, Food Services, and/or other itinerant staff as assigned.

REPLACEMENT QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate
  2. Valid Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement in a program or service area or satisfactory alternative experience as determined by the Board of Education.
  3. Master's Degree from an accredited institution in special education or a related area.
  4. Five years of successful experience in special education programs or services.
  5. One year of administrative, supervisory, or related experience preferred.

JOB GOAL

  • Provide for the development, coordination, and supervision of staff and students at Freedom Acres School. These include students eligible as either SEI or SCI with the SCI being a 200 day program.
  • Execute other special education duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent/Special Education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate, supervise, and assist designated staff members in educational planning,record keeping, and program evaluation for all students enrolled in the program.
  2. Complete the evaluation process of staff at Freedom Acres School including observing, providingspecific quality feedback, coachingand conferencing with staff, and completing evaluations.
  3. Develop and implement the school improvement plans for Freedom Acres School.
  4. Responsible for state assessments for students at Freedom Acres and center-based programs that are both hosted in the LEAs and operated by ICISD.
  5. Assist in recruiting and selecting special education staff for positions at Freedom Acres School.
  6. Assist staff and administrators in meeting special education program rules and theimplementation of special education procedures.
  7. Assist in the compilation and preparation of regular and special reports for local,county, state, and federal agencies as required.
  8. Provide assistance in the operation or management of other special education center programs (i.e., placement procedures and criterion; technical assistance and instructional consultation in cooperation with intermediate school districtadministration).
  9. Serve as a liaison to community and state agencies in coordinating total programmingservices for students with disabilities.
  10. Hold regularly scheduled meetings with the special education staff for the purpose of disseminating information, planning educational strategies, and evaluating programgoals and objectives.
  11. Keep informed of current rules and regulations as they pertain to MARSE and IDEA, as well as other rules and law as they affect special education.
  12. Serve as the chairperson of all IEPs at Freedom Acres.
  13. Oversee the physical plant, transportation, record maintenance, and hot lunchactivities for Freedom Acres School.
  14. Supervise and coordinate the development of school curriculum, program operationalpolicy, and budget development efforts in relation to the Freedom Acres school programs.
  15. All other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent/Special Education.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

220 days per year, salary and fringe benefits as provided by the Intermediate SchoolDistrict Board of Education.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent Special Education in accordance with provisions established by administration/contract.
