AWARENESS
Join us for a Workshop.
Learn how Problem-based Case Studies are structured and how they are currently used in technical education. Experience working through a scenario to learn how to use active learning strategies. This overview of The Case Files approach will prepare you to apply basic principles of How People Learn and give you basic tools to use in your teaching practice.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
Attend anInstitute.
If you have previously attended an Awareness Workshop, you learned how Problem-based Case Studies use problematic situations to teach concepts in technical education. In the Design and Development Institute you learn how to design your own Problem-based Case Studies. It begins with an immersion experience in an authentic situation from business/ industry, placing you and your team in the role of students.
After the first hand experience as students, your team will actually build a first draft of your Problem-based Case Study (PBCS). The Case Files staff offers assistance using design guidelines and development criteria based on lessons learned over the last three years of the project. Experienced faculty and business/industry partners support development of your PBCS through instructional designing, technical writing, storyboarding, and creating media.
Make the most of your time at the Institute by bringing your business partner(s) and subject matter expert(s) connected with your idea. Also, bring support materials, such as text documents, content resources, sketches, diagrams, and media clips. Your teamcan transform your idea and these resources into a Problem-based Case Study.
Implementation
We invite you to work with The Case Files staff to implement your Problem-based Case Study. We have developed a support system for designers and developers of Problem-based Case Studies as they implement their PBCSs with students. Follow up support for application of active learning strategies, authentic assessment, and sustaining business/industry partnership throughout implementation are provided through a variety of strategies;for example: onsite visits, conference calls, document exchange via the internet, videoconferencing,
e-mail, IM and VoIP communication.
A library of fully developed Problem-based Case Studiesand those with more development required, as well as good ideas for cases, is available at Practitioners, instructional designers, administrators, counselors and business/industry partners can refer to the library for PBCSs to implement and for ideas to develop. Every contributor to the library receives recognition and could be invited to be part of the coaching team to assist others in the design, development, and implementation of Problem-based Case Studies in technical education as well as other disciplines using technology.
A retreat for contributors can be organized by The Case Files staff to offer intensive training and focus on leadership development in the infusion of the PBCS processes within technical education programs.
Community
Become a member of a community seeking reform in technical education. As part of an online community participate in leadership development and curriculum design activities using the basic principles embedded in Problem-based Case Studies. Share your experiences and work together to address the challenges of preparing students for a fast-paced society that demands continuous adaptation of expertise to stay viable in the 21st century workplace.
