Written by Hung Viet Tran

  1. Start SSH Secure Shell Client

Start -> All Programs -> SSH Secure Shell for Workstations -> Secure Shell Client

  1. Connect to CS Linux server

-Click on Quick Connect button from SSH Secure Shell Client

-Enter the information to connect to CS Linux server

-A window will appear to identify your current computer, click on Yes button to continue

-Enter your CS password to connect

Once you successfully connect to CS server, the SSH Secure Shell Client will look like this:

  1. Transfer your files to your .public-html folder on CS Linux server

-Click on button New File Transfer Window to launch the Secure File Transfer program

-Once the Secure File Transfer program runs, you will see the files on local machine you are working with are listed in the left panel and your files on CS Linux server are listed in the right panel

-Click menu View -> Show Hidden Files to display your .public-html folder on CS Linux server. Since your .public-html folder start with the dot “.”, the system considers that it is hidden. Therefore, when you first connect to CS Linux server, you cannot see the .public-html.

-Double click on your .public-html folder in the right panel of the Secure File Transfer program to open it. After opening your .public-html folder, you can transfer files from the local computer you are working with to .public-html by dragging those file from the left panel to the right panel of Secure File Transfer Program.

Please note that sometimes you save your lab file in your Documents folder in the local computer and the path to that folder is so long and Secure File Transfer Program cannot browse to that folder. It is the best if you put all the files you want to transfer to CS Linux server to the Desktop of the local machine and then upload those files to CS Linux server. Usually, you have to upload the following files to the CS Linux server:

-Lab6.swf
-Lab6.html
- AC_RunActiveContent.js (If you publish your lab from Adobe Flash CS3)

You can also download any file from your .public-html folder to the local machine by dragging that file from the right panel to the left panel of Secure File Transfer Program. For example, if you want to edit your homepage, which is index.html, you can drag index.html from .public-html to the Desktop of the local machine, then use SharePoint Designer to edit it, adding the link to the lab for instance, and then put the modified file back to CS Linux server by dragging it from the left panel to the right panel of Secure File Transfer Program.

  1. Run fixpub command and test your pages

When finishing upload file to CS Linux server using Secure File Transfer Program, please remember to come back to SSH Secure Shell program, the program you use to connect to CS Linux server, to run the fixpub command. Simply type fixpub and hit Enter button on your keyboard.

If there is no problem, you can see your webpage at: otherwise you will see the error page saying that you don’t have permission to access to the files on the server. If this is the case, please run fixpub command again.
