BRULE COUNTY DIRECTOR OF EQUALIZATION

Brule County South Dakota is soliciting applications for the position of Brule County Director of Equalization.

The Director ofEqualization is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and is responsible for implementing the system used for the collection of taxes for the County and public entities in the County. The Director’s duties include the discovery and description of taxable property, appraisal of this property, maintenance of records linking properties to their respective owners, and preparation of assessment roles. In addition the Director provides assistance in obtaining equalization between classes of property, determining value adjustments to properties, administering state laws pertaining to property assessment, and the review and appeal of assessments

The Director of Equalization must obtain a Certified Appraiser Assessor designation from the South Dakota Department of Revenue within one year of appointment. Recertification is required every five years. Recertification is accomplished by attending annual school, passing prescribed courses, and attending conferences and workshops sponsored by the South Dakota Association of Assessing Officers and the South Dakota Department of Revenue.

The Brule County Director of Equalization also has been directed to maintain a Geographic Information System (GIS), is the County Flood Plain Administrator and the Planning & Zoning Administrator and may have such other duties and responsibilities as determined by the County Commission.
