•Familiarize students withthemetalshop

•Review emergencyproceduresandhow theyrelate to the metalshop environment

•Introduce students to new tools and equipment

•Inform studentsabout use andlocation ofallemergencyequipment in the shop, includingfireextinguishers,power shut-off buttons,fireblankets,firstaidkits,emergencyexits,andeyewashstations

Terminology

Emergency exit: a marked exitdoor usedwhen leaving a building duringan emergency

Eyewash station: asafety devicedesignedtorinseaway debris, particulate, or chemicals fromthe eye.

Fire blanket: ablanketmade offire-retardant materialthat isplaced overthefire toextinguish it.

Fire extinguisher:a portable safety devicedesigned toextinguish a firethrough therelease ofextinguishingmaterial.Thereareseveraldifferent types ofextinguishers,each specific tothetypeoffire:Class A = wood,trash,andpaper;Class B = liquid;Class C = electrical.

First aid kit: a containerwithbandages, gloves,cleaningsolutions, andotherfirst aidmaterials.

Powershut-offbutton(emergencystop): abright redswitchthatshutsoff power toallequipment andoutletsinthe shop.

SDS: Safety DataSheet, alsoknownasMSDS(MaterialSafety DataSheet).Provides detailedinformation on thecomposition,safehandlingandstorage,andfirstaidmeasuresforproducts.
