What:The Missouri Humanities Council and the Springfield-Greene County Library District are bringing traveling exhibitionOver There: Missouri and the Great War to nine Missouri communities from June 29, 2017, to November 1, 2018.

Over There: Missouri and the Great War features documents, images, and artifacts from museums, libraries, archives, and private collections across the state.The exhibit includes seven double-sided panels exploring many facets of World War I history through the perspective of Missouri and Missourians. Visitors can learn about the contributions of Missouri women and African Americans to the war effort, or discover the vital role Missouri horses and mules played in the war. Accompanying the exhibit are two touch-screen kiosks, where visitors can explore more content, artifacts and photographs, and discover locations of World War I monuments throughout the state. The exhibit also features a new seven-minute documentary featuring footage from the war.

Who:This exhibition was developed by the Missouri Humanities Council and the Springfield-Greene County Library District, with funding provided by the Missouri Humanities Council, Friends of Springfield-Greene County Library District, and the RDW Family and Community Fund.

Why:Over There: Missouri and the Great War brings together resources from archives, museums, and collections across the state to allow Missourians from many communities to learn about the state’s role in WWI in ways that they might not otherwise be able to do without traveling to another city. The exhibit broadens interest in history, helps residents connect to local history and Missouri heritage, and promotes tourism in a variety of Missouri communities.
