The Team

Alastair Lydon- Camp Organiser and Head Coach

The camp will be led by Alastair Lydon who is an ex Barnes 1st XV player, match analyst for Bath RFC 1st XV and England U19. He has been a PE teacher and the 1st XV Rugby Coach for The Harrodian School for the last 7 years and has also taught at the prestigious Knox Grammar School in Sydney. Alastair has also played semi-professional rugby in Australia in NSW Division 1 and was selected for the North England at U18 level.

Gareth Jordan - Lead Coach

Another coach is Gareth Jordan who is the current Director of Rugby at Civil Service and PE teacher at the Harrodian School. He is RFU level 3 qualified coach and has a RFU coaching license. He has been involved in the Harlequins Development Player Program and was the School Of Rugby Lead Coach 2011-2014, Harlequins Elite Player Development Coach 2011-2014 and London Irish Academy Coach 2012/13.

Alex March - Media Assistant and Coach

I have been playing rugby ever since the age of 5 and this has involved club level rugby with Wasps and more recently Ealing academy and also for the 1st XV at school. I have captained my age group at school from the age of 9 and on numerous occasions for club as well as receiving several awards for my performances over the years. I have been involved in Middlesex county rugby and I'm hopefully on course for another trial at the end of the season. I completed my sports leadership level 1 course last year and this furthered my learning of leadership and organisation, hopefully I can bring my passion and experience in rugby into this Easter rugby camp and help it prove to be an enjoyable one for the kids taking part.

Charlie Whitfield - Coach

I first started playing rugby at the age of 5. Ever since then, I have played for a number of clubs and teams, including The Harrodian School, Richmond FC and Barnes RFC, and rugby has been a huge part of my sporting life, and I am incredibly passionate about it, both on and off the pitch. I am a very athletic individual, and I take part in a diverse range of sports, including rugby, football, cricket, golf both at school and at club level. I have also grown to love ballroom dancing and am a big fan of Strictly Come Dancing. Throughout my years playing rugby, I know that when I have had great coaching I have always enjoyed it more, I have improved my game and I have got the most out of the time I have spent. Now it is my turn to give it my all for this camp so that all of the kids enjoy it to the max!

Alastair and Gareth want to create the BEST minis rugby camp in London/SW England. And hearing their ideas our minis are in for an incredible fun 4 days with really experienced coaching.

Why us?

The values for our camp are enjoyment, respect, kindness, courage and leadership.

What is new?

A stadium tour for the kids to go to Twickenham, the home of Rugby!

Details of the sessions

We have team and individual training methods for kids to enhance learning and skills.

●Individual video analysis and feedback. (This would incorporate joint analysis using a compare and contrast visual feedback process). Looking specifically at movement patterns of the body when passing, kicking and running with the ball. This will help facilitate the 3 stages of social perception (Social stimuli- attention-organisation-interpretation and judgement-response). With most cases humans only remember and retain 10% of what is being said. If however this information is reinforced by a visual reference with positive feedback that learning process is enhanced immensely by being able to store the information in the long term memory. This is due to an emotion being attached to a visual reference.

●Balance and Vision (Visual Enhancement Training Goggles) exercises. These allows the brain to facilitate your “ACT” skills. Your alternatives, consequences and task behaviours by training the brain to have more time to access the information in any given situation.

●Specialised resistance and power training.

●Speed and agility training.

●Injury prevention, core development with mobility and flexibility training. (this incorporates some pilates and specialised PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilititation) stretching. PNF stretching allows the muscles to move through a greater range of motion by delaying the activation of autogenic inhibition.

●Mental training to help deal with group dynamics with different personality identification types. This is a process of identifying what type of personality your child is and then tailoring the coaching process to best fit that child.

●A Barnes rugby camp t-shirt/shirt.

●Awards and trophies.

●Safe environment with both head coaches first aid, defibrillator and CPR trained.

●Competitions and match play.

●A YouTube link to the video of the week.
