BEGINNING CHOIR

DISCLOSURE STATEMENT 2016-17

OBJECTIVE Beginning choir is a choral group of treble voices that focuses on

Utah State Core Curriculum Standards including creating a beautiful

tone, improvising rhythmic and melodic ideas, and examining how music relates to personal development and enjoyment of life. Students will learn rehearsing skills, increase their music reading ability, and perform alone as well as in large ensembles.

MUSIC FEE A $15 music fee is required. This fee may or may not have been

collected at registration, should be paid in the office. A receipt needs to be taken to Mrs. Bementby the end of the first term. Fee waiver students must send anote that they are exempt from this fee.

CONCERTConcert performances are part of the class curriculum. They are

ATTENDANCE not considered extra-curricular events. For this reason, attendance

POLICY at all concerts is required. Students who do not participate in a

performance will not receive points for that event. Only extreme emergencies will be considered as excuses for missing concerts. Concert absences must be pre-approved. Concerts will be held in the Roy High School large auditorium.

Please arrive ½ an hour early for all of these performances.

CONCERT Dress for all concerts for girls is: dresses or skirts that meet school dress

DRESS code standards. For boys: button down shirts with a collar, tie, nice

pants. These should be a better quality pant like Dockers. NO DENIM.

Shoes and socks, or pantyhose are also required.NO FLIP-FLOPS.

3) BRING PENCIL EVERY DAY

4) USE OF EQUIPMENT IS BY PERMISSION ONLY. THIS

INCLUDES PIANO, CHALK BOARD, MARKER BOARD,

COMPUTER AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT.

5) NO GUM, POP, CANDY, ETC. WATER BOTTLES ARE

ALLOWED AND ENCOURAGED.

6) NO PUT DOWNS, NAME CALLING, BULLYING, HARASSMENT

7) CELL PHONES AND IPADS WILL BE USED FOR QUIZZES AND TESTS DURING CLASS. THIS IS THE ONLY USE ALLOWED DURING CLASS. NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE ALLOWED TO BE PLUGGED INTO WALL OUTLETS.

CONCERTS = 50 points. Perfect attendance in class will give you a “B” grade. In order to earn an “A”, you must attend the concert.

Points will be subtracted for:

  • Absence from regular rehearsal -10 points
  • Tardy to regular rehearsal -5 point
  • Absence from concert -50 points
  • Negative contribution to the group up to -10 points

Music not prepared or memorized; continual talking

In rehearsals, bad posture, lost music, gum chewing,

Not marking music as directed.

Make up work:

We encourage all Razorbacks to be responsible in completing assignments and projects on time. When students are not able to finish their assignments by the designated date, the opportunity will remain for them to complete and submit their work within one week of the original due date for a maximum of 70% of the points.

*Concerning late work, teachers reserve the right to work with students on an individual basis that may be less limiting, but not more restrictive than the policy.

If a concert is missed, please talk to Mrs. Bement to see if it can be made up.

Citizenship Citizenship grades will be determined by the guidelines set forth in Roy Jr.

High’s Student handbook. All students enter the classroom with an “S” in

citizenship. Extraordinary behavior must be maintained to receive an “H”. An “N” will be assigned to students who exhibit inappropriate behavior in the classroom (including back-talk or sass) or who recieve 4 tardies. “U” will be assigned to students who continually exhibit extreme unacceptable behavior, or after 6 tardies.

NOTIFICATION Updating of both letter and citizenship grades is done daily on the

LOSS OF CREDIT progress on a regular basis is encouraged.

MUSIC USE Music is expensive and must be returned in good condition. Students may

mark the music with pencil ONLY and erase marks before the music is returned. A fee will be assessed for lost or damaged music. Folders will be shared by individuals as needed. In this case, all who use a shared folder will share equal responsibility for the care of the music and folder.

VIDEOS The Weber district policy on video usage prohibits films to be shown for

IN CLASS reasons other than instructional purposes. Films shown in junior high

schools must be “G” rated. “PG” rated videos can be shown with parent and building administrator approval. Please sign the accompanying permission slip if you are willing to allow your child to view a PG rated video at some time during the school year. All films shown inclass will be used to augment instruction and correlated to instructional objectives. Students will be accountable for their participation and the accompanying activities and assignments (worksheets, discussions, etc.). The use of videos during class will be very limited and applied only when it will make a positive impact to achieve instructional objectives.

BUS TRAVEL A permission slip is included in this disclosure concerning travel

PERMISSION occurring during the school day such as district solo and ensemble

SLIP festival, district choir festival, and concert tours to the elementary

School. This is a blanket permission slip covering events listed on the calendar. If an activity is planned which does not appear on the calendar, a separate permission slip will be sent home with your student. This permission slip does not take away your right to contact the teacher at any time to withdraw permission for a specific event.

BIRTHDAYSBirthdays will be celebrated every month on our early out days.

Students with birthdays in August & September will be recognized on the September schedule; birthdays in June & July will be celebrated on the May early out day. The class presidency will organize and lead the recognition of birthdays.
