Course Description: This course builds on the foundation of Theatre Arts 1. Students will continue to develop and explore theatre performance techniques and concepts through the use of acting games, improvisation, and the creative process. This creative process includes brainstorming, decision making, rehearsal, performance, giving critique, and receiving critique. Theatre is an art form that requires a great deal of cooperation and collaboration. The student will be expected to: work cooperatively, participate actively, stay on task, evaluate self and others in a constructive manner, manage time wisely and exhibit self-discipline and self-initiative.

Learning Objectives:

•Develop a respect for other's opinions, ideas, feelings, and property.

•Develop self-assurance (in the classroom and transfer that to life outside the classroom).

•Develop the ability to organize and express thoughts (in your head and on paper)

•Identify and demonstrate appropriate audience behavior.

•Encourage a more developed perception of self, human relationships, and the environment using drama.

•Use the creative process and performance to interpret characters and use voice and body expressively.

•Relate theatre to history, society, and culture.

•Respond to and evaluate varied theatrical performances through giving and receiving critique.

•Develop an appreciation ofthe arts (both as a participant and an audience member).

Learning Outcomes:

•Students will develop and use their imagination through acting games, improvisations, and performances.

•Students will use the creative process individually and within small groups to brainstorm, rehearse, and perform.

•Students will offer and receive constructive criticism effectively.

•Students will collaborate, problem solve, and communicate to create a product.

Course Expectations:

•Follow school, class, and stage rules and directions to ensure the safety of self and others.

•Be an active and present participant.

•Be respectful, responsible, and safe (physically and emotionally).

•Demonstrate appropriate audience etiquette.

Course Evaluations:

•Daily Grades = 50% of average (Participation, rehearsal process, audience etiquette and critique) .

•Major Grades = 40% of average (Performances/Tests).

•Course Journal (Written responses) =10% of average.

•Semester Exams/Projects: Performance and/or Written Exams/Projects will be given 2 weeks prior to the end of

each semester.

I Important information about this course that will enable you to be successful:

Your participation in class (warm-ups, activities, rehearsals, performances, and audience) will determine a large portion of your grade. How you prepare for a performance is just as important as the actual performance. Each student is expected to enter the class ready to: work and play with and open mind, respect for yourself and others and to exhibit an attitude that will push you to do your best. Strive to improve and learn everyday!

For all state-approved courses. the State ofTexas has developed the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) which define the guidelines under which La Porte ISD must develop the objectives for the course. These TEKS are cross-referenced to the LPISD curriculum objectives.
