SUMMARY OF MAIN FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE OF JOB
The Deputy Director for Nursing Education and Clinical Practice Developmentcontributes to NMCH’s corporate management by providing introduction of changes in nursing practice, the support and development of nursing practitioners, setting standards and quality improvement using research evidence. The person has operational and functional responsibility forassessing, planning, and directing evidence based high quality educational programmes to maintain and advance the practice of nursing.He/she ensures a highly competent nursing workforce by organising and directing a centralised team of education specialists and managers in the provision of continuous development and learning activities for NMCH nursing staff.
The main focus is to promote and support NMCH organisational vision, mission, and objectives.
LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and promote an environment thatincorporates evidence based practice, contribute positively to hospital accreditation standards, regulatory compliance, staff and physician engagement and patient satisfaction
  • Direct and facilitate full integration of clinical informatics, simulation technology and nursing orientation programmes.
  • Promote translational research activities and maintain excellent relationships with nursing colleges and universities.
  • Negotiate and secure funding for training and development of new practice services.
  • Support the commissioning and contribute to the delivery and review of training programmes for practice nurses.
  • Determine access and barriers to training and develop strategies to address these.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing Sciences
  • Nursing education qualification is strongly required
  • Current Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife
  • A minimum of 9years appropriate/recognisable experience after registration with SANC as a General Nurse
  • 5 + years of Clinical experience in Nursing Education and Practice Development
  • Ability to liaise with interdisciplinary team members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • Broad knowledge of Professional Nursing Practice Standards and Scope of Practice regulations for Health Care Personnel, patient care equipment and products
  • Understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery
  • Professional integrity, ethical conduct, accountability and advocacy
  • Computer literacy is of utmost importance
  • Good verbal and written communication and report writing skills, leadership, organisational, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of legal framework and policies and procedures within the hospital environment
  • Conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of code of conduct and Labour Relations procedures / processes.
  • Knowledge of Patient’s Rights Charter.
