Dear Unit Leader,
Thank you for taking advantage of the top of line leadership training offered our Scouts through the Boy Scouts of America. The staff of NYLT 2013 looks forward to meeting and working with your Scouts during this important training session.
The schedule for this leadership training course is chock full of activities – both presentations on leadership skills that are not taught to youth anywhere else and many fun activities geared to reinforce the skills presented by providing hands-on practice. Attending Scouts will meet and work with other Scouts from around the Indian Nations Council along with Scouts from neighboring councils who may attend. A portion of the training course will include an overnight outpost camp.
Your Scout(s) will return to your unit with a new energy and outlook on leadership. They will have learned many new skills and had the opportunity to practice these skills over their 6 days in attendance at NYLT. We ask that our Scouting leaders afford their newly NYLT-trained Scouts opportunities to put these skills to use in the weeks and months following the course to permit the Scout’s home unit to benefit from the entire process.
As a reminder, the 2012 NYLT course is scheduled for Monday, June 17th thru Saturday, June 22th.
Throughout the NYLT training course, attending Scouts will be on a “Quest for the Meaning of Leadership”. The course will culminate on Day 6 with a feast for participants, staff and invited guests. As leaders for those Scouts in attendance, we invite you to take part with us in this feast. This feast and program celebrating the completion of this year’s NYLT course will be held at the Hardesty Center at Camp Garland, beginning at 5:30 pm on Saturday, June 22th. We ask that you plan to park in the main parking lot outside the Hardesty Center at Camp Garland.
Following the feast, the participants and staff will take part in a closing ceremony. During this time, we expect that parents will begin arriving at the Bartlett Training Center in preparation for the return trip home. Parents and leaders alike should gather informally in the Bartlett Training Center awaiting the Scouts return from the closing ceremony.
