Dear Instructors of HTP

Dear Instructors of HTP

April Greetings!

Dear Instructors of HTP,

We had a fruitful Quarterly Instructor Tele-conference on March 7, 2012. There was excellent discussion between Instructors and ourselves about Accreditation, the pilot exam and the new grandfathering that will be offered this summer with the Entry Level Proficiency Exam. 1.2012 Healing Touch Worldwide Conference: Energy Medicine: A Wellness Revolution

Registration is open! Make sure you register before May 2 for the introductory price.

Last year we ran out of hotel rooms and many participants had to move to an overflow hotel. Please make your room reservations early – you can register on-line. There is no addition charge for additional people staying in one room (limit 4) and there is a roommate forum to help match people up in rooms.

The Instructor Gathering will begin the evening of August 1st and continue from 8:30 – 4:30 on the 2nd. The meeting fee includes opening reception with light hors d’oeuvres on Wednesday and breakfast and lunch on Thursday.

Click here for the Instructor Gathering schedule.

The majority of our time together will be focused on curriculum reviews and updates for Levels 1-5, with emphasis on the new Level 1 Notebook. We believe you will be very pleased with the revised books!

We will also review the new HTP student evaluations which will clearly provide more specific feedback to the instructor and also provide a place for testimonial statements that can be used for HTP instructor websites/marketing.

Our brief introductions on Wednesday evening after our social hour will be even briefer this year (about 15-30 seconds each) based on past instructor feedback. We will invite each instructor to speak her/his name and location. After introductions, we will have time for those of you who want to share specifics about your area or activities, descriptions from some of you on how you have successfully built your community, committee updates and stories…. plus some fun ways to get to know each other better!

Please let us know if you have something you want to share with the instructor group that would take more than a few minutes, so that we can have it on the agenda.

We will have a much improved speaker system this year so that everyone will be able to hear everything well.

2.Instructor Frequently Asked Questions page on the HTP web site has been updated with information about ANCC regulations and other information. Please logon to the Instructor/Coordinator page on the web site and visit the updated page at:

3.ANCC Updates:

Please be sure to download the most current class confirmation letter from the Independent Healing Touch Classes page. The office has noticed that some independent class confirmation letters do not contain all the required ANCC wording. Please ask your class coordinators to make sure they are using the most current version of the confirmation letter. Find these in the instructor area of the HTP website.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in the requested instructor biographical data and Conflict of Interest forms. HTP’s accreditation with ANCC requires that all instructor forms be current. A recent audit of the instructor files shows that there are still a few instructors whose forms are not current. If you are contacted in the near future about the status of your forms, it is critical that you respond promptly with the requested information to maintain your “in good standing” status.

4.Editing Instructor Profiles

Please be sure that when you are updating your Instructor Profiles that you are not creating a new profile. Editing is simple and easy. Login to the instructor profile and click on the “edit” button above your name. From there you can edit your profile or edit your photo. This directory of our instructors is used frequently by students to find teachers and for networking between instructors and coordinators. At the HTP office we often refer people to this site.

5.Curriculum Notebook Updates

Cynthia and the Curriculum Committee are staying busy with notebook revisions. The Level 1, 4, and 5 notebooks will be ready by the summer. Levels 2 and 3 should be ready by the fall. We intend to do a review of the new notebooks at the Annual Instructor Gathering in San Antonio this August.

6.2012 Level 6 Classes

Level 6 Instructor Training this year is Sept 17-20 in Boulder, Colorado. We encourage you to repeat at no charge to review and enliven your Level 1 and overall teaching skills. HTCIs who have attended a repeat Level 6 over the last few years have shared rave reviews and much personal value. Level 6 has evolved quite nicely over the years educationally, energetically and fun-wise! If you know of any qualified and enthusiastic HTCPs interested in teaching, please encourage them to review the application online and to contact .

7.Other Class Opportunities for Instructors:

Instructors that have taken Advanced Practice Classes are eligible to repeat these courses at no charge. This is a wonderful opportunity to earn CEs for you instructor certification renewal and experience lead instructors teaching. Remaining AP classes on the schedule for this year:

·April 27-28, Greenwich, CT - SOLD OUT

·June 22-23, Elizabethtown, PA

·June 29-30, Boulder CO

·August 25-26, Amsterdam, NY

·October 27-28, Chicago, IL

Cynthia also extends a warm invitation for any instructors to come and participate in any of her Levels 1-6 HT classes as well as Intro classes. She teaches Levels 1, 2 and 3 twice a year in Boulder, Colorado and also accepts invitations to teach these classes wherever possible to support a region. She is happy to add a few hour social event before or after classes to meet with local students, practitioners and instructors.

8.Nepal Update: Tim McConville is currently teaching Levels 2 and 3 in Nepal with AparnaBhatta, HTCP/I at her HT center in Kathmandu. Tim is supporting her advancement to Level 2 instructorship. Aparna has already taught over 175 Level 1 students since becoming an instructor just a little over a year ago! Thank you to those of you who supported Aparna by sending your outdated Level 1 books to Tim so he could hand deliver them to Aparna. Thank you to Tina Devoe for orchestrating this effort! Tim and his lovely wife, Pam (who is serving as a class helper), left April 1st (no joke!!) and will after a Level 3 class April 16th. Congratulations and blessings to Aparna!

9.Accreditation Update for Healing Touch Certified Practitioners by Chris Gordon

Healing Touch Certification (HTC) is actively pursuing national accreditation with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Below is an update on some of the latest developments in the process. For more details about accreditation please visit the certification website.

The Healing Touch Certified Practitioner Entry Level Proficiency Exam is the test that will become a required part of the certification process. We completed the pilot exam in February with over 300 HTCPs that participated and took the pilot test. All scores for the pilot test have been sent by e-mail. Anyone who has taken the pilot test and has not received the pilot test results please contact us in the HTP office so that we can make sure everyone receives their results. The pilot test results will be rescored according to the final exam and those results will be available when the final form of the test is completed.

We are currently working with the Psychometrician to analyze the results of the pilot test to determine the questions that need to be removed, determine the minimum required score, and create the final form of the exam. Our plans are to offer the exam starting in May, and we will make a detailed announcement as soon as the final form of the exam is completed. Registration for the exam will not be available until after the exam is available.

We will need to have a total of 500 HTCPs take the test (pilot or regular) before we can apply for accreditation, and that looks very achievable with the spectacular participation we received on the pilot test. We sincerely thank everyone who has helped us elevate the program by participating in the pilot test, and we look forward the benefits that this professional recognition will bring to everyone who is doing the work!

Newest Development: Grandfathering

The Healing Touch Certification Governing Committee has decided to create a grandfathering period which will allow HTCPs who take the test (pilot test or exam) but do not pass to be grandfathered to have met the exam requirement.

The basic premise held since the beginning the process of applying for accreditation is that the certification process is effective at determining the competence of a practitioner for certification. The addition of an exam in the certification process is to meet the NCCA standard of having an objective criterion referenced evaluation instrument. We believe that the certification packet review process is a more rigorous evaluation that will remain the cornerstone of the certification process and will be the prerequisite for eligibility to take the exam.

All HTCPs are required to take the exam or to have taken the pilot test. During the grandfathering period any HTCP that does not achieve the minimum required score on the exam will qualify to grandfather past the exam requirement, and will not have to repeat the exam until achieving a passing score. The grandfathering period will end prior to submitting the application for accreditation.

It is planned that the grandfathering period will be in effect until September 1, 2012. Based on the scores we have seen on the pilot test, the number of people that we are expecting this will affect will be very small.

Achieving National Accreditation will represent a great achievement in working to bring Energy Healing Therapies like Healing Touch into the modern medical care arena. This is the foundation of Janet’s vision and the mission of Healing Touch Program “to bring Healing Touch to every home, school, healthcare facility and hospital.” Others are already following in our footsteps. Working together, we are leaders in Energy Medicine!

Love and Gratitude,

Cynthia and Lisa
