KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS PERE LE DUC FAMILY NEWSLETTER

Thank you for your continued supportand encouragement as we begin our thirteenth (13th) year of publication of our current format of our Pere Le Duc Family Newsletter, and “the Cable”. In case you forgot, or were wondering, why we call it “the Cable”? Well, below is the answer to that simple question, as it was first published in our Volume IX, Number 2, August, 2008 publication.

“As we journeyed, and still continue to journey, through Knighthood as Knights of Columbus, we have, or should have, learned that we cannot do it alone. We, as Knights of Columbus, grow with others, those we serve, serve with, and are served by. Alone, as a “single fiber” or strand, we are strong; but, our strength is only as strong as we are as an individual. Together with our Brother Knights of our Council, we are stronger. We feed off each other’s strength, example, and encouragement. Like the single fiber united with the other single fibers, we gain strength. We become as a cable, “the cable,” that is a symbol of strength and unity. Each strand supports the other to accomplish a task, goal, or mission. Bound together, with our Brother Knights as a Council, we are strong. Bound together, we are Pere Le Duc Council 1522 Knights of Columbus. So, why call our monthly newsletter, “the Cable’?” Simply put, because I (as editor) thought it best describes our beloved Pere Le Duc Council 1522.”

GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE

Dear Brother Knights,

As your re-elected Grand Knight, I want to first of all thank you, Brother Knights, who served our Council 1522 as officers over the past Fraternal Year of 2011 - 2012. I thank you for your generosity, dedication, and service.

Now, I thank you for allowing me to continue to serve you as Grand Knight this upcoming 2012 – 2013 Fraternal Year. And, I thank those Brother Knights who will serve our Council 1522.

As in the past, I am again asking for help from all of you, my Brother Knights. The officers for this fraternal year and I are committed to serving and leading our Council. We have the opportunity to revitalize our council as in the years of old. We have already started with our second Sunday of the month spaghetti dinners and the most recent Tootsie Roll Drive. You, my Brother Knights, generously responded with active participation. And, we had fun!

Brothers, we need you to come back to the Council meetings. Attendance at meetings is critical. By attending our meetings, you have a role in our success. We also need to re-emphasize recruitment of new members and, especially, retention of our current members. Our local Catholic Church parishes in our South Mississippi footprint are great places to continue our recruitment efforts. As we recruit, we need to follow through with getting these men initiated.

Again, I humbly thank you for re-electing me as your Grand Knight. I look forward to serving our Council 1522 with you.

Vivat Jesus,

John Dahn, Jr., GK
