Day 12 Durham and the Coast
We’ll visit Durham atop the hill encircled by the river. Be awed by the sight of WhitbyAbbey and imagine the hordes of Viking invaders 1000 years ago. Enjoy the peaceful beauty of the coastline
Day 13 Cambridge and London
We’ll stop by Cambridge on our way back to The City, where we’ll visit the BritishMuseum to see some of the most famous pieces in the world, like the Rosetta Stone. Then it’s on to the newly restored Globe Theatre along the Thames. How about a ride in the Millennium Wheel for a glorious view of the city?
We’ll have a final meal at a local chippie and top the meal with a cornet of ice cream. Ah, the best in daily fare!

Day 1 Depart USA
Overnight flight to London.
Day 2 Arrive in London
Transfer to our London B&B for a relaxing afternoon. High tea is served in the conservatory at 8:00.
Day 3 London at Leisure
Sit back and enjoy the city sightseeing tour in Royal Britannia’s own double decker omnibus. Take in the atmosphere of Harrod’s food halls, then take the lift to the first floor and pick up a few classy souvenirs.
In the evening we’ll take in a pub. Enjoy toad in the hole, some bitters, and a game or two of noughts and crosses
Day 4 Oxford, Coventry
We’ll leave The City and head north on the M11, a major dual carriage-way, toward Oxford. Stroll amid the quaint half-timbers of the town—maybe spotting a university don in his robes. Then on to Coventry, the town of Lady Godiva. We’ll visit the cathedral ruins, bombed during the war, but stunningly reborn in glass.
Savor a meal of bangers and mash, followed by dessert of jelly and ice cream—a British favorite—for just a few quid.
Day 5 Stratford-upon-Avon
Spend a day in the Bard’s hometown. Meander through the knotted gardens of New House and queue up for tour Shakespeare’s birthplace. (Tours during November and December take in an evening at the panto.)
Day 6 Chester, Liverpool
Step back to Elizabethan times as we head to Chester via the A41 for a view of the homely town with the most half-timbered buildings still standing. Then a quick jaunt over to Liverpool where we’ll take in a seafood dinner of prawn from the local fishmonger.
Day 7 Wales
Travel the coastal route to the resort towns of Llandudno and Conwy and stroll along the boardwalk. Then we’re off to Caernarfon, the castle where the Princes of Wales have been crowned for centuries. Overnight back in Chester.
Days 8 & 9 The Lake District
Ah, the peaceful countryside! With luck we’ll see a milk float, a sure sign we’re in the country. Tour Keswick and Ambleside; visit Wordsworth’s cottage, but don’t forget your brolly—the gentle rains keep the Lake District misty like an impressionist’s painting.
Relax in the evening in the local and have a go at a game of snooker for just a few bob.
Days 10 & 11 York
We’ll see YorkMinster and its famous Five Sisters windows. Then take a step back in time as we walk through the Shambles, stopping along the way at a tea house for Twining’s best, served with biscuits, scones, and clotted cream. Then it’s on to the Viking Museum, proof that York was part of the old Danelaw.
Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Thames.
