ANNUAL WORK PLAN AND BUDEGT 2010-11.

1.INTRODUCTION;

1.1The National Programme of Nutritional support to Primary Education commonly known as (Mid Day Meals Programme) which was launched as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme on 15th August-1995 . Its objective to boost “universalisation of Primary education by increasing enrolment,retention and attendance and simultanously impacting on nutrition of students in primary classes, improving enrolment and regularities of attendance and reducting the drop out .

1.2DEMO-GRAPHIC PROFILE OF THE U.T.

The Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is situiated on the western coast of India between the paralles o 20-0 & 20-25 of latitude north and between the meridian 72-50 & 73-15 of longitude East. The territory surrounded by Valsad district of Gujarat on West, North & East and by Thane District of Maharashtra on South & Southern east. It is hilly terrain specially toward the northeast and East where it is surrounded by ranges of SahyadriMountains. (Western Ghat). The terrain is intersected by the River Daman Ganga and its three tributaries. The territory receives an annual rainfall between 2000 to 2500 mm.

The nearest Railway Station is Vapi, which is about 18 k.m. from Silvassa. The U.T. is linked with National Highway No. 8.

The Dadra and Nagar Haveli was born on 17th December-1779 as a result of a treaty between Portuguese and Maratha. There are 70 villages and 02 census town are called the Dadra and Nagar Haveli, liberated on 2nd August-1954. The population of U.T. is predominated tribals who constitute 62.24% of total population. The main occupation of Tribals is agriculture but due to rapid industrial development in this U.T. about 44861 persons are employed in about 3000 industrials units which are fuctioning at present. The language spoken by the tribals is a “Varli Dilect” mixure of Marathi language and Gujarati, however most of tribals understand Gujarati language. The main festivals are Holi and Diwali; Dance, Drinks and Music predominate of the festivals.. Shri Natubhai G. Patel is a Member of Parliament of the single Constituency of U.T. Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
