Present: John Cannon (Chair), Paul Gathercoal, Raymond Dixon, Allen Kitchel, Dan Campbell, Robert Ketchum, David Campbell, Teresa Million

Meeting called to order at 9:30 a.m.

Minutes

Allen moved to approve and Raymond seconded. Motion passed.

CTE Program Update

Business and Marketing Clinical Faculty Position

The announcement is currently open. Hoping to get a few more applicants. Everyone spread the word to potential candidates.

State Division – FY15 Grant Proposal

John will probably send out notices to gather information from everyone sometime in March. John is anticipating the same funding as last year.

Dave C. is in need of some funds right now to get the CSI program up and running.

John asked Dave to contact Jim Gregson regarding some refurbished equipment he has available – an LCD projector. Dave was also given the go ahead to buy a video recorder.

Teresa will check into the cameras purchased by Kathy Williams and disperse them.

Focus on the Future

There is no update.

TaskStream

Make sure your courses are up on TaskStream and that students are registered.

Fall Schedule

Dave will have some courses to add. Everyone else has provided John with course information. For the most part, it looks good.

Proposed C&I Bylaws

The biggest change made was under Article II, regarding who can vote, to encompass the greater body of the department and entities outside C&I that work closely with us.

The quorum is set at 50% attendance. This will require some initial calculations.

The list of those invited would be a good indicator of the number to set quorum.

Director of Teacher Ed

Do we need a Director of Teacher Ed?

There is support for this position within the CTE program faculty.

Does it need to come from within C&I?

There is some interest outside C&I, and even outside COE, based on last week’s TECC meeting.

Dave moved that the CTE program supports the creation of, and hiring of, a Director of Teacher Ed. Raymond seconded. Motion passed.

Allen will report this at Friday’s C&I Meeting.

PRAXIS

Too many students are applying to student teach without having passed the PRAXIS II in their content area. It is COE and C&I policy that this be done. Two-thirds of applicants have not yet passed.

Sally G. advocates that students be advised to take it a year in advance to give them time to repeat if they don’t pass.

Internship Grading

Can we move this to Pass-Fail for CTE candidates?

Letter grades could pull down a student’s GPA making it more problematic in the future.

If you have questions, contact Sally.

Teresa will make this change effective Fall 2014 semester.

CTE Advisory Committee

John has nothing new to report.

Future Meetings

March 7, 2014 8:30-9:30 PT.

Final Words

CTE 430 starts mid-semester and could use more students.

Kudos from Paul for CTE moving in the right direction. Let’s try to hire somebody good to fill the current opening.

Final words from John: Keep up the good work.

Meeting adjourned at 10:21 a.m.
