2015Canola Contract

On behalf of the North Dakota State University Agricultural Experiment Station, the Williston Research Extension Center (WREC) would like to extend an invitation to seed companies or their representative to submit entries into our canola performance tests for 2015.

Two separate canola performance tests will be conducted at the dryland Williston site; a Roundup Ready trial and a conventional trial which will include conventional, Liberty Link and Clearfield cultivars. All cultivars in the Roundup Ready trial should contain the Roundup Ready gene as the trial will be sprayed with Roundup. Theconventional trial will be managed with conventional herbicide strategies. The conventional trial will also contain at least one Roundup Ready check cultivar.

Canola seed should be treated with the seed treatment necessary to protect the seed against seed and seedling diseases and flea beetles. Please note no additional seed treatments will be applied after it arrives at the WREC. The trials will be managed with the best management practices for our location. Assuming a normal spring, planting date will be around April 25-May 1. Please provide germination percent. If not listed we will use a 90% germination rate to calculate seeding rate.

Results from our canola performance tests are published in the Williston Research Extension Center’s annual report in late December and are available on our website: The data will also be published in Extension Bulletin A-1124, “Canola Variety Trials”. Data from these North Dakota State University Agricultural Experiment Station trials shall not be used in advertising to indicate North Dakota Experiment Station recommendation of any specific hybrid.Data from experimental lines will not be published in NDSUExtension Service bulletins. Please specify in the box provided if a line is experimental or commercially available.

The charge for canola cultivar/hybrid testing is $250 per entry per trial. There will be no refunds in the event of a natural disaster such as hail or frost. We reserved the right to limit the number of entries by any one seed company. The performance testsareintended to compare named cultivars and experimental lines within one year of possible release. If a cultivar/hybrid was tested last year as an experimental, please inform us of the past experimental designation.

The contract entry form deadline is March 20, with seed and payment due no later than March 30 for inclusion into these trials. Please fill out the entry form below and email back as an attachment.
