Created in 1979, Action Contre la Faim (ACF) is a non-governmental organization that fights against hunger. Its charter of humanitarian principals- independence, neutrality, and non-discrimination, free and direct access to victims, professionalism, and transparency - has been part of its identity for 35 years. Its mission is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of under-nutrition, particularly during and after emergency situations linked to conflicts or natural disasters. Action Contre la Faim focuses its actions on 5 main areas of expertise: nutrition and health – healthcare and care practices - food security and livelihoods – water, sanitation and hygiene – advocacy. In 2014, Action Contre la Faim provided aid to 13.6 million people in more than 46 countries worldwide.

ACF has been operating in Afghanistan since 1979, with a strong focus on emergency response to human-made and natural disasters, targeting primarily refugees, Internally Displaced Persons, and flood/drought affected populations. Over the years, ACF has expanded the focus of its’ intervention from short-term, more emergency to longer term projects aimed at addressing chronic vulnerabilities of the communities and strengthening their capacity to prepare to, and cope with disasters. Sector-wise, ACF has established itself over the past 25 years as a prominent Nutrition and WASH actor, with recognized expertise in these two sectors and active membership to sectorial Clusters where ACF is active in the Nutrition Cluster as well as the co-lead of the Nutrition Assessment and Information Management Working Group and co-lead of the IMAM Technical Working Group also as a member of the IYCF Technical Working Group. The Nutrition Head of Department is an integral member of all these groups and has the unique oppotunity to influence the nutrition sector at the national policy level.

As per its mandate and global strategy, ACF has been working extensively in the field of nutrition, through integrated programs aimed at reducing under-5 morbidity and mortality. As of now, ACF is operating in 4 provinces in Afghanistan through integrated Nutrition, FSL and WASH interventions to support the most vulnarable groups.. In complement to implementation of programs, ACF has recently engaged in advocacy with the aim of improving nutrition service delivery in Afghanistan. All these exciting works are done by ahighly motivated team of over 300 national staff and 15 expatriates.ACF is looking for a highly motivated technical Nutritionist to join our team and lead the department to new levels of success!

We are looking for:

A NUTRITION HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Country:AGHANISTAN – Mazar-i-Sharif

Length of Contract:12 months, renewable, starting as soon as possible

The Position: Under the supervision of the Country Director or the Deputy Country Director, you will be responsible to define the strategies and coordinate nutrition activities of Action Contre la Faim. More precisely, you will in charge to:

Design, develop and evaluate actions in the field of nutrition.

  • Collect and quality control of monitoring, follow up and evaluation data
  • Maintain quality for the nutritional situation analysis
  • Assess the standard of nutrition proposals submitted by his/her teams
  • Encourage his/her teams to identify new programmes
  • Develop an ACF nutrition strategy specific to the mission and advocacy actions.

Monitor and coordinate nutrition and health programmes

  • Develop integrated (inter-disciplinary) approach programmes
  • Collect and analysedata, including the decisions making on this basis
  • Provide timely and high quality activity reports
  • Monitoring all the consolidated programme budgets relating to nutrition allocated to the country

Manage the Nutrition team in capital and bring technical support to the Nutrition and Health Program Managers

  • Evaluate of the technical performance and skills of Programs Managers
  • Develop the technical skills of Nutrition and Health teams

Develop and launch programmes in collaboration with governmental, UN, international and local agencies

  • Disseminate ACF’s nutrition at country level to partners and funding bodies
  • Develop and maintain a network of harmonious and productive relationships with national representatives and programme partners

Represent ACF and its positioning in the field of nutrition and health

  • Represent ACF in dealings with national and international authorities on matters of nutrition
  • Make national and international authorities fully aware of the ACF positions and protocols
  • Participation in the IYCF Technical Working Group, Nutrition Assessment and Information Working Group. Co-lead of the IMAM Technical Working Group.

The Applicant:You hold a Master degree in Nutrition, Medical Doctor, Public Health or equivalent and have a minimum of two years field experience in coordination positions, with an NGO, on preventing malnutrition programmes.

You hold an extensive experience in Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition and a proven experience in nutrition programs designing. Experiences of working in partnerships and advocate for improvements in the Nutrition Sector at the National level, as well as writing proposals, leading on sourcing of new funding and developing coherent and contextualized Nutrition Strategies.

Recognized for your excellent diplomacy, organisational, communication and representation skills, you have also developed good team management skills.

Fluency in English (oral and written) is compulsory.

Gross monthly salary ranging from €1805 to €2305 depending on relevant experience

SPECIFIC ALLOWANCE IS GRANTED FOR THIS POSITION

Food and hygiene expenses, per diem, transportation costs,collective or individual accommodation, medical insurance

25 days of annual paid leaves and 20 days of rest and recuperation (R&R) per year
