MAIDSTONE AND MID-KENT YOUNG MUSICIANS OF THE YEARAWARDS – 2014

The Maidstone and Mid-Kent Young Musicians of the Year Awards provide an opportunity for eight of Maidstone and Mid-Kent’s young musicians to give solo performances in concert conditions before an audience at The Hazlitt Theatre, Earl Street, Maidstone on Wednesday 14th May 2014.

Each chosen performer will receive an award of £50.00. The performer judged to have given the best overall performance will receive the Rotary Club Shield which they retain for one year.

Conditions of Entry

  • Entry is restricted to musicians resident or schooled on a full-time basis in the Maidstone and Mid-Kent area under the age of 19 years as at 1st May 2014
  • The entrants should be at least grade 7 and their entry must be endorsed by a qualified music teacher
  • The selection of entrants to perform at the Concert will be based primarily upon the standards of musical technique and interpretation displayed at the Preliminary Round
  • Entrants should prepare a contrasting Concert programme on instruments or voice lasting a maximum of eight minutes. Entrants exceeding this time can expect to be penalised by the judges. A piano accompanist will be provided if required and a rehearsal opportunity will be given prior to the Concert on the night.
  • The decision of the adjudicators and committee is final
  • There will be a preliminary round at Sutton Valence School on February 8th at a time to be advised. A piano accompanist will be provided if required and a rehearsal opportunity will be given prior to the audition. All performers will be required to perform at the preliminary round from which will be selected the eight finalists. The pieces performed at the preliminary round are to be the same pieces as performed at the final.
  • Candidates are not permitted to bring their own accompanists.
  • Successful entrants will need to attend a Deportment session and to have their photograph to be taken for the programme at a time to be advised.
  • The Concert will be held on the evening of Wednesday 14th May 2014 and the award will be decided on the night by a panel of professional musicians.
  • Entries should be returned on the form attached not later than Mon 3rd Febby post or Fri 31st Janby email.
  • For the avoidance of any doubt performers may choose any style of music or any instrument.
