PURPOSE OF THE COURSE: To provide an opportunity for high school students to learn about the basic elements and requirements for national security and their personal obligations as American citizens to contribute toward national security.
**NOTE** Due to the nature of the 4x4 block schedule and the associated challenges with scheduling, cadets in their second and third years of the program are combined into a single syllabus grouping that will alternate course topics each year. Both the NSII and NSIII curriculum are a step up from the NS1 base knowledge, and form equivalent arches that lead to the keystone NSIV class.

FORMAT: Class will vary between two-three academic days and two-threeleadership labs per week. The labs will be composed of drill training Monday and physical fitness training Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday, cadets will wear their NJROTC uniform and will be inspected for a grade. Remaining time will be used for academics. NSII & III cadets will be expected to facilitate the conduct of both academics (as mentors to NSI classes) and as Assistant Instructors in leadership labs where they have demonstrated a high level of aptitude.
Classroom activities will include lectures, discussions, audio/visual presentations, quizzes, exams, workshops, Guest Speakers and team building exercises. Extra-curricular opportunities continue in Color Guard, Drill Team, Marksmanship, Academic Team, Athletic Team, and Orienteering Team. Participation in one or more team is vital to a successful program and expected of NSII & III cadets. A minimum of two overnight Field trips, several day trips and numerous community and school service projects will also be added during the course of the year.
MAKE UP WORK:
Students are able to make up work for any excused absence, this includes ISS or OSS. The student must make up missing assignments within the time frame that they were absent or they will receive a zero for the assignment. For example, if a student has two consecutive excused absences, he or she will have two days upon return to school to make up the work.It is the students’ responsibility to ask for make-up work and arrange time with teacher to complete the assignments.

- No food or drinks in class other than clear water containers with lids
- Demonstrate your preparedness for promotion through self-discipline
- Academic integrity violations include all forms of academic dishonesty and will not be tolerated.
COMMENT TO CADETS: You are in the middle of it. Branch out and try something new - test and push yourself. Making it this far proves you have what it takes...ask for help, strive for challenge...risk more to achieve more. Come to class ready, with a positive attitude. I need you involved in all of our teams. We will have several field trips, drill meets, color guard performances and many other activities. The top 25-30% of you will be selected to attend Basic Leadership Training camp next summer. Top 10% performers will compete for slots to attend the Leadership Academy, CO/XO School, or Sail Academy. You are the core that will run this unit next year.

Activity Fee: A $175.00 fee will be required of each returning cadet to cover the cost of unit specific PT gear, cover the transportation cost for their first day trip and to offset the cost of frequently used classroom consumables.
Fundraisers: The unit will conduct various fund raising activities to cover the cost of expenses for drill competitions, field trips and other assorted activities throughout the year.
Parent Support: Parents are an important part of the support that we receive for extra-curricular trips, for fundraising, and as chaperones. We have a strong parent support group which meets monthly, and a few open positions in our CPO for parents who may be able to obligate some of their time.
