JOB DESCRIPTION

COORDINATOR – LEAD TEACHER

JOB TITLE:Coordinator/ Lead Teacher

RESPONSIBLE TO:Latin American House’s Children’s Education Project manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR: paid and volunteer teachers/teaching assistants

FUNCTION OF THE POST: To be the education and curriculum co-ordinator and Lead Teacher of the LAHSpanish Saturday School in order to promote the knowledge and comprehension of Spanish languageand Latin American culture.

AIMS

-To ensure that the Spanish Saturday School provides high quality Spanish language teaching to children.

-To promote Latin American culture in the School’s curriculum and activities.

-To ensure the implementation of the School’s Health and Safety policies and procedures and the implementation of quality standards.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-To lead the development and implementation of a culturally relevant environment and curriculum for children between the ages of 4 and 11 years old.

-To establish and maintain an attractive, safe, healthy and nurturing environment for children.

-To lead on the development of an annual workplan and lesson plans, in line with the curriculum objectives and to develop teaching materials.

-To implement appropriate safeguarding practices across the School.

-To ensure the implementation of quality standards across the Spanish Saturday School.

-To lead team meetings for all teachers and volunteers before and after each Saturday School session.

-To maintain active communication and relationship with parents, updating them on their child’s progress.

-To enable smooth running of the School making any necessary adjustments using resources appropriately.

-To ensure that preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the school areas are carried out to the required standards in accordance with Health and Safety policies and regulations, and risk assessments.

-To meet regularly with the Children’s Education Project manager, school administration officer and Latin American House manager to plan each new term.

-To attend regular supervision meetings and annual appraisals with line manager.

-To attend other occasional meetings, for example, Latin American House Away Days, Children’s Education Project meetings, Annual General Meeting.

-To carry out your work in the best interest of Latin American House and in accordance with its Equal Opportunities Policy

-To treat all personal, private of sensitive information confidentially.

-To uphold the ethos and protect the good name of Latin American House.

Person Specification:

ESSENTIAL

1.Spanish Language – native or equivalent

2.Deep understanding of Latin American culture

3.Previous experience of teaching children

4.Experience of teaching modern foreign languages

5.Relevant teaching qualifications

6.Proven leadership skills and ability to lead a team

7.Ability to develop a creative curriculum

8.A knowledge of strategies that enable teachers to teach mixed ability children within the same class and provide work which is differentiated to cater for the entire ability range

9.Ability to develop and maintain good professional relationships with parents

10.Ability to keep records and any other administrative duties relevant to this post

11. Ability to work with teachers and volunteers and to deploy them effectively

12.Commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities, and understanding of religious and cultural diversity

13. Willingness to learn

14. Willingness to attend relevant training
