Coolbaugh Hall HVAC Equipment Sequence of Operations

Air Handling Unit No. 01:

This air handling unit furnishes supply and make-up air, heating and cooling to all offices and laboratories within the entire new building addition. Lack of supply air will result in disturbing of the fume hoods within the laboratories. As a result, the building space will be under a higher negative pressure while the fume hoods exhaust system is running. Cooling and heating set point can not be achieved. As a result, the space temperature may be uncomfortable.

Air Handling Unit No. 02:

AHU-2 furnishes ventilation air, cooling and heating for atrium within the new building addition. Lack of supply air within this space will result in disturbing the ventilation system cooling and heating set points to keep the space at a comfortable temperature.

Air Handling Unit No. 03:

AHU-3 furnishes ventilation air, cooling and heating within the auditorium. Lack of ventilation air within this space will result in disturbing the heating and cooling set points to keep to the space at a comfortable temperature.

Air Handling Unit No. 04:

AHU-4 supplies ventilation air, cooling and primary heating for the offices and classroom within the old portion of Coolbaugh Hall. During the shut down period, the cooling and heating set point cannot be achieved.

Air Handling Unit No. 05 & 6:

AHU-5 & AHU-6 units furnish supply and make-up air, heating and cooling to all laboratories within the old portion of Coolbaugh Hall. During the shut down period, the space static pressure will be more negative and will effect the operation of the fume hoods within the laboratories. Cooling and heating set point cannot be achieved. As a result, the space temperature may be uncomfortable.

Air Handling Unit No. 07 (Old Green House):

AHU-7 provides heating and in-direct evaporative cooling for rooms 168B and 168C. During PM, heating and cooling temperature set point cannot be achieved. As a result, the space temperature may be uncomfortable.

Exhaust Fans No. 01 & 02:

EF-1 & EF-2 are connected to the building main exhaust manifolds and serve the fume hoods located within the new Coolbaugh Hall addition. These exhaust fans are also utilized for general exhaust systems within the laboratories. During the shut down period, none of the fume hoods can be used due to the lack of exhaust ventilation system.

Exhaust Fans No. 03 & 04:

EF-3 & EF-4 are connected to the perchloric fume hoods only. During the shut down period, the perchloric fume hoods cannot be utilized.

Exhaust Fan No. 07:

EF-7 serves the radioisotope room. During the shut down period, the radioisotope fume hoods cannot be used.

Exhaust Fans No. 13 & 14:

These exhaust fans provide general exhaust for the laboratories within the old portion of Coolbaugh Hall. During the shut down period, the space will not have adequate ventilation and laboratory's pressurization will be effected.

Exhaust Fans No. 15 & 16:

These exhaust fans are connected to the fume hoods located within the old portion of Coolbaugh Hall. During the shut down period, the fume hoods cannot be utilized.

Exhaust Fan No. 18:

The glasswash room no. 111 is served by this exhaust fan. During the shut down period, there will be no adequate ventilation within this space.

Exhaust Fan No. 21:

This exhaust fan serves the rock/sample room no 028. During the shut down period, the space will not have proper ventilation as designed.

Exhaust Fan No. 22:

This exhaust fan is connected to the chemical fume hood within laboratory prep. room no 103B. During exhaust fan shut down period, the fume hood cannot be used.

Supply Fan No. 03:

This supply fan is the supply air booster for the clean room. Without the supply air booster, the space will not have proper ventilation to meet the clean room design criteria.

Centrifugal Chillers, Cooling Towers, Steam Specialties and Misc. Equipment

There are many other units, systems and devices associated with the building heating, cooling, ventilating, and air conditioning that would effect the building operation if such a unit and system shut off for a long period of time. However, we will keep the shut down period to a minimum to reduce any changes in the building indoor air quality.
