Abstract:

This document presents procedures to configure the firewall settings of McAfee firewall plus or internet security suite, in such that the laptop can utilize on campus wireless resources. This document also contains instructions for placing Touro related web sites on the safe list.

Intended Audience:

This document is intended for users configuring McAfee firewall plus or Internet Security Suite software for usage on the wireless network.

Configuration Steps for McAfee Internet Security Suite:

  1. Start McAfee Internet Security Suite by locating the McAfee security center icon in the systray and double clicking the icon.
  2. Select “Advanced Menu” from the menu on the left side.
  3. Select the “Configure” tab from the menu on the left side.
  4. Click “Internet & Network”
  5. In the “Internet and Network Configuration” box to the right select the “Advanced” button.
  6. A box will appear, select “Trusted and Banned IPs” from the menu on the left side.
  7. In the “Trusted and Banned IPs” box on the right, make sure that “Trusted IP addresses” are selected in the dropdown box.
  8. Click “Add”.
  9. Select single IP address radio button and type the IP address in the “IP Address” text box.
  10. Click “Ok”.
  11. Repeat steps 8 to 10 until all needed IP addresses are added.
  12. Click “Ok”.
  13. Close “SecurityCenter”

Enter the following IP Addresses as “Trusted”:

Configuration Steps for McAfee firewall plus:

  1. Locate McAfee software in systray
  2. Click with the right mouse button to pull up context menu.
  3. Navigate to Personal Firewall>Utilitites
  4. McAfee firewall plus security center will appear. Under tools in the configuration box, click on “Trusted and Banned IPs”.
  5. Box will appear. Check that “Trusted IP Addresses” tab is selected.
  6. Click “Add”.
  7. A dialog box will appear. Click on the radio button for “Single IP Address”.
  8. Type in the IP address.
  9. Click “Ok”.
  10. Repeat steps 6 to 9 until all IP addresses are entered.
  11. When finished, click “Ok”.
  12. Close McAfee Personal Firewall Plus security center.

Enter the following IP Addresses as “Trusted”:

PlacingTouroUniversitysites in your “Trusted sites” list in Internet Explorer.

  1. Locate the Internet explorer icon on the desktop and select it by clicking once on it.
  2. Click the right mouse button while the icon is selected and select properties from the context menu.
  3. Click on the “Security” tab.
  4. Click on the “Trusted sites” zone.
  5. Slide the slider for “Security level for this zone” to “Medium”.
  6. Click the “Sites” button.
  7. Uncheck the “Require server verification” box.
  8. Type in the web site in the “Add this website to the zone” box and click add.
  9. Repeat step 8 for all sites that need to be added.
  10. Click “Ok”
  11. Click “Ok” again.

Add the following websites to the list:

nac.tu.edu
42.0.0.2
172.16.0.17

You may be prompted with a security alert for a security certificate. Select the “Yes” button to proceed.
