COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

MEETING AGENDA

January 23, 2015

GOAL: This committee will focus on improving communication to help foster a culture that embraces collegiality and transparency within the college. Members will help assess the types of information to be communicated to employees, the effectiveness of current delivery methods and recommend guidelines for more effective communications.

Review of 2014 Staff Communications Survey - key findings/suggestions to be shared with ELT:

  • Add DEPARTMENT, make it an optional entry
  • To get more feedback, send more often and ask managers to encourage staff participation
  • Who’s not participating – the neutral or dissatisfied?
  • September might be a better time than October
  • 2014 a year of tremendous change – ‘change fatigue’
  • Encourage people across departments to share news and announcements via Emily’s Wire
  • The Wire to have standing entries for COE, Jenzabar, periodic updates for Vision 2020
  • Policies of interest – being established for handbooks and will be communicated as posted
  • Post schedules/cost on intranet in one place – available in April 15
  • Updates on staff leaving – HR department feels this should be a manager responsibility
  • Suggest internally changed positions be added to Emily’s Wire
  • Committee members miss Spotlights
  • Sharing more student success stories
  • Rich will share a form, an easy way for instructors to solicit testimonials from students
  • People want opportunities to provide feedback
  • Encourage open discussion staff meetings, participation in chats
  • Instructional team working hard to change ‘top down’ culture
  • Survey not scientifically sound
  • Ask questions that solicit more specific recommendations
  • Denise Bender to help develop and analyze next year
