  4. UH Holmscoming will be held on September 23, 2016. ASME Student Section will have a booth. Attendance is encouraged to meet the students with the opportunity to provide mentorship.
  5. A Car wash fundraiser is scheduled in October. More details will be available as the date approaches.
  6. Freshman challenge – ASME is seeking upper class engineering students to provide mentorship to students enrolled in the Engineering 100 class. The class will be having a project to design and build a device. Because this class is an introduction to engineering, the class will be looking to the upperclassmen to provide engineering principal and project management guidance.
  7. UHM DME Report – Dr. Trimble
  8. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has hired two new professors. One in Thermofluids and one in Mechanics.
  9. The additional staff and added lab space was submitted to ABET and is expected to be accepted toward the departments full 6 year accreditation.
  10. The Fall 2016 semester mechanical engineering student enrollment is approximated at 380 students.
  11. To assist with the large enrollment, the DME is transitioning to have all lab courses combined with their respective theory courses. This transition will be fully implemented starting this Fall 2016.
  12. Two professors have departed for new jobs. Brian Bingham is now at the Naval Postgraduate School and Jingjing Li is now at Penn State.
Unfinished Business:
  1. New Assignment for ASME (by HCES)
  2. Promotional Items – ASME is currently editing graphics for the proposed promo items. Next step is to obtain a minimum of two price quotes for items as requested by HCES.
  3. Brochure – ASME has submitted a draft to HCES. If the draft is approved, the next steps will be to work on original imagery for inclusion in the brochure. Samples were handed out for feedback.
  4. Suggested Tour Planning
  5. Suggested Tours – HART Facilities, Pearl Harbor Shipyard, High Schools who have programs of study preparing for Engineering, Wheeler Army Airfield. No assignments for pursuit of these tours were issued to members at this time.

  2. Speaker suggestions: 1) Dr. Trimble; 2) Graduate students or other professors.
  3. Campbell biodiesel plant – 2 years away. (To pursue tour after the facility is operational)
