Objectives:

  • Explain the social, political, and economic differences between the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies
  • Identify particular colonies and settlements on a map
  • Utilize technology to research information and create a presentation to classmates

Directions:

  1. You will be placed in a group and assigned a colonial colony. Each colony represents a geographic area. The three colonies are:
  2. Jamestown, VA ( Southern)
  3. Plymouth, MA (New England)
  4. Pennsylvania (Mid-Atlantic)
  1. Using the textbook and reliable internet sources (.org, .edu, .gov and select .com), research the following topics for each region of colonies:

A. Identify your colony/settlement on a map

B. Economic activity of each region (or colony being used as case study)

  1. Type of government that emerged in each region (or colony being used as case study)
  2. Social Aspects of region (or colony being used as case study):
  3. Relations with Native Americans
  4. Labor and Slavery
  5. Religion
  6. Gender Roles
  7. ONE interesting fact
  1. Choose a format below to present your information:
  • Brochure: Use your brochure to persuade as many classmates as you can to move to your colony. Emphasize the positives of your colony
  • TV Commercial: Create an infomercial to persuade as many classmates as you can to move to your colony. Recording needs to be clear and conversations need to be understood. (Might want to use Moviemaker or Imovie)
  • Flyer: Use your flyer to persuade as many classmates as you can to move to your colony. Emphasize the positives of your colony
  1. Make sure you include the following information:
  2. A map identifying the location of your settlement/colony in relation to the other 13 original colonies
  3. The information researched in B-D above.
  4. Minimum of 3 relevant pictures
  1. As a individual, prepare a brief presentation (Minimum of 2 minutes/Max of 3 minutes). You will present the information to classmates.
