Use your notes, packet and textbook as a reference.

Write and know the definitions of the following words:

white blood cells – help body fight infection

plasma – 60% of blood, fluid that contains many proteins

hemoglobin – an iron containing protein that makes up most of the red blood cells

cardiac–having to do with the heart

vein – blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart

aorta – largest artery in the body – takes oxygenated blood into the body

pacemaker- cells in the right atrium that sends out signals to make the heart beat.

valves – a flap of tissue in the heart (trap door) that prevents blood from flowing backwards

platelet –assists in blood clotting – part of blood

artery – a blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart

alveoli – thin walled air sacs located in the lungs

epiglottis – flap that keeps food and saliva out of the trachea

diaphragm – muscle that causes your chest to expand when you breathe

lung – main organ of the respiratory system

nose- warms, moistens and filters air coming into the respiratory system

trachea – windpipe, tube that carries air into the lungs

oxygen & carbon dioxide (as it relates to the 2 systems)

respiratory system – supplies the body with oxygen

cilia – bristly hairs that clean dirt

capillaries–blood vessels that connect veins to arteries

pulmonary –having to do with lungs

septum – muscle in heart separating two pumps

tissues are made of? tissues are made up of cells

Write and know the following about the heart:

How many pumps and chambers? 2 pumps and 4 chambers

The flow of the blood through the heart: oxygen poor blood enters the rt. atrium, pumped into the rt. ventricle, into the lungs to get oxygen, into the left atrium, into the left ventricle and pumped to the atrium to be circulated thru the body.

Location and parts of the heart (packet pg. 29)

List the 4 valves and 4 chambers (packet pgs. 29)

chambers: rt. atrium, left artrium, rt. ventricle, left ventricle

valves: tricuspid valve, mitral valve, aortic valve, pulmonary valve

Draw and labela diagram below showing the flow of blood through the valves, chambers, & lungs. Use packet as a reference.

Draw and label a diagram below showing the major organs of the Respiratory system:

Use packet pgs. 6 & 17 as a reference. (trachea, lungs, epiglottis, alveoli, diaphragm)
