RECAP

  • Quinquennial Inspection Reports were published in July 2014 and September 2014 for St Joseph’s Church and St Edmund’s Church and Presbytery, respectively.
  • Surveyor’s budget estimate for the works amounted to £207,700 (excl. VAT or fees), split into following categories:
  • H&S
  • Urgent
  • 0 - 1 year
  • 1- 5 years
  • Desirable
  • F&GP committee focus was to action ‘immediate’ works deemed H&S, urgent or to be completed in 0-1 year
  • Surveyor’s budget estimate for these immediate works:

CHURCH WORKS UPDATE

  • Majority of immediate works ‘to action’ nearly completed May 2017:
  • Church lighting upgrades (internal + external)
  • Fire safety review and first aid kits renewal
  • Internal woodwork repairs
  • Internal decoration (mainly at Presbytery)
  • External decoration (mainly at St Joseph’s)
  • Lightning conductors testing + maintenance
  • Gutter cleaning
  • Fencing and general signage
  • Outstanding items of immediate works:
  • Slip-resistant paint to St Edmund’s steps
  • Tree pruning at St Joseph’s (to be completed in autumn)

GOING FORWARDS

  • Father’s Pastoral Plan to be undertaken in the coming year
  • Future of the church buildings will not be determined before the Pastoral Plan and it will take a few more years before any decision is made
  • Required works to be undertaken to ensure building’s general upkeep for continued use by Father and parishioners in years to come
  • Key repair or upgrades works will also need to be undertaken to avoid the properties falling into more costly disrepair if left unattended
  • F&GP committee to undertake further review of QR works, to include:
  • Deferred immediate works
  • 1- 5 years works
  • Desirable works
  • Current surveyor’ budgets for remaining works as per QR report:
