Youth Lacrosse Clinics

Lacrosse clinics for boys and girls in grades one through seven will be held at Chester Elementary School on Wednesdays, September 23, 30,October 7, and14 from 3:00 until 4:30 and October 22 from 1:00-3:30. In the event of rain the make-up day for October 22 will be October 28 from 3:00 until 4:30. Students will learn basic skills and rules with experienced high school coaches and players. All levels are welcome. Sticks, balls, mouth guards and goggles will be provided, but students may bring their own equipment. The fee is $25 for grades one through six and $20 for grade seven as the October 22 date conflicts with their school schedule. Call 526-0013 ext 223 to register.

Karate for Children

Karate classes will be held in the multi-purpose room at Chester Elementary School by Valley Shore Martial Arts. Children who are in grades 1 through 6will meet on Thursdays from 3:00 until 4:30 on October 1, 8, 15, 29, and November 5 to learn the Kempo style of Karate. The cost of the program is $25. Theatre Workshops for Children

Children in grades 1 through 6 may attend theatre workshops on Tuesdays this fall, conducted by Elise MurphyMulligan of Tigertale Theatre. The program will be conducted in the Chester Elementary School multi-purpose room from 3:15 until 4:15 on September 29, October 6, 13, 20, 27, and November 3. Create a character! Dream up a play! Perform it for your family and friends! The fee is $45. Call 526-0013, extension 223 to register.

American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training

American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training will be offered at the Chester Town Hall on Fridays when school is not scheduled. Session one will be offered on October 9, from 8:45AM until 3:45PM. Session two will meet April 16, from 8:45AM until 3:45PM. The training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism, basic care, safety and safe play and first aid. The program is open to participants in grade 5 throughage 15. The fee is $35. Call 526-0013 ext 223 to register. Please register at least three weeks before the scheduled class date!

PARK & REC FRIDAY BOWLING Students in grades one through eightmay join the Chester Parks and Recreation staff on Friday,November 6, when there is an early dismissal from school. The Bowling field trip leaves from Chester Elementary School, directly following the early dismissal. The children will return to Chester Elementary School at 4:30. The fee is $20. A snack will be provided.

Monster Golf

Children in grades 1 through 8 may ride the school bus, with the Parks and Recreation staff, from Chester Elementary School to Monster Golf in Groton for frightening miniature golf and arcade games, following the early dismissal on December 4. A snack will be provided. The children will return to Chester Elementary School at 4:30. The fee is $25

Hotshots Basketball Competition

This program, for students in grades 3 through age 15, will begin with a practice in the multi-purpose room at Chester Elementary School, following the 1:00pm dismissal on January 8. Children will practice for the contest, have a snack, and, compete in the contestat 2:45. The program will end at 4:00pm. Winners in the 9 and 10 year-old, 11 and 12 year-old, and 13 to 15 year-old Hotshot competition are eligible to compete on the county level. Students who are younger than 9 years old on 12/31/09 are not eligible to compete in on the county level, but are welcome to participate in the Chester program. There is no fee.

Sports Center of Connecticut

There is no school on Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

Chester Parks and Recreation will sponsor a field trip to the Sports Center of Connecticut, in Shelton,

for children in grades one through eight.

The bus will depart from the Chester Community Center at 8:45am and return at 3:30pm.

Activities will include Jungle Laser Tag, Fun-Bowl, and Ice Skating.

The fee is $50. Please bring your own lunch.

CoCo Key Indoor Water Park

Children in grades 1 through 8 may ride the school bus following the early dismissal on February 12 to CoCo Key WaterResort in Waterbury. Pizza will be served at the event. We will return at 5:30pm. The fee is $38.

Six Flags New England

There is no school on Friday, May 7, 2010.

The Chester Parks and Recreation Department will have a field trip to Six Flags New England

for children in grades two through eight.

The bus will depart from Chester Community Center at 8:45am and return at 4:45pm.

The fee is $55. This price includes an all-you-can-eat buffet lunch.

Youth Basketball Coaches Needed

Adults interested in coaching youth basketball are requested to contact the Director at 526-0013 extension 223 by October 16. Please provide your phone number and mailing address and indicate the grade you would like to coach and days of the week and times you are available. All volunteers must attend a bloodborne pathogen control session before they may begin coaching. First aid training is required within one year and provided free of charge. In addition, all those coaching, or assisting coaches, must complete a notarized affidavit for a background check. The basketball program is tentatively scheduled for December 9, 2009 through February 28, 2010 for grades 1 through 6, Monday throughFriday in the Chester Elementary School multi-purpose room.

American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED Classes

American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AEDfor Schools and the Community will be offered at the Chester Town Hall. All students will meet on Tuesday, November 10, from 6:45 until 9:00pm. First Aid students will also meet on Thursday, November 12, from 7:30 until 9:00pm. The Adult and Child CPR and AED class will have their second meeting on Tuesday, November 17, from 6:00 until 9:00pm. Participants have the option of adding Infant CPR. The cost is $25 for one class or $35 for both certifications. These courses are offered free of charge to Chester Parks and Recreation staff members and volunteers. Zumba is exercise in disguise! It’s a Latin inspired dance fitness class that uses international music and dance rhythms together for the ultimate exercise experience. You do not have to know how to dance to take a Zumba class. We create a non-competitive party atmosphere where students can interpret the dance rhythms in their own way. It’s fun! It’s different! It’s easy! It’s effective! Zumba is offered by Chester Parks and Recreationat the Chester Community CenteronThursdays, 5:15 to 6:15pm. Session 1 will meet October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and November 5 for $60 and Session 2 on November 12, 19, December 3, 10, and 17 for $50 with Instructor Audra McGee. New York City Bus Trip

A trip to New York City onOctober 3, 2009 will leave the Chester commuter parking lot at 7:30AM, with a choice of being dropped off at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, or Rockefeller Center, or Battery Park. The bus will pick up passengers at 6:00PM at a midtown location, announced on the day of the trip. The cost is $28 for Chester residents, and $30 for nonresidents. Ballroom Dancing

Ballroom Dancing meets on Tuesdays, at 6:30pm, at the Chester Meeting House. For more informationor pre-registration, send e-mails to .

Adult Recreational Basketball

This program meets from October 29 through March 18 at the Chester Elementary School multipurpose room on Thursdays, from 6:45-8:30PM. There is no basketball on school vacation days, when the school closes due to severe weather, or when there are special school events in the evening. Registration is required BEFORE playing. Registration forms are available at the program, at chesterct.com, and in the Town Hall outside the Parks and Recreation office. The registration fee is $10 for Chester residents and $15 for nonresidents.

Chester Youth Basketball March Madness

March Madness, for those registered in Chester Youth Basketball, will be held on Sunday, February 28, between 3:30 and 7:30PM. Parents will have an opportunity to challenge their child’s team on the court and a pizza dinner will be served.

Fishing!

Please do not fish in the swimming areas, even in the off-season.

We have a problem with hooks in swimmers’ feet!

DOG OWNERS!

Please abide by the statutes of our State and ordinances of our Town.

Dogs are not permitted on playgrounds or beach parks, except guide dogs.

Dogs in other areas of the parks must be controlled by a leash. Dogs may not roam on the property.

Any waste material deposited by your dog must be removed before leaving the immediate area.

NORTH QUARTER PARK SAFETY NOTE

Preschool age equipment at North Quarter Park is appropriate for 2 to 5 year olds.

The larger Big Toy unit is appropriate for children ages 5 to 12, only.

Please supervise all children on the playground.

Ice Skaters!

Please remember, the ice in Chester is not monitored for safety!
