OUTINGS

Refreshments,chairs and pit stops

You will need to provide your own refreshments, as applicable, for morning and afternoon teas and lunches. Although many of the areas being visited have picnic tables available, it is advised to take your own folding chair. Mostly, routes have been arranged to include rest area toilet stops but in a couple of cases we have noted the lack of facilities. PLEASE have you car fueled and ready to go for each morning.

Health and Safety - Ticks, Mosquitos, Snakes

A separate ‘Health and Safety Briefing’ sheet is available and will be addressed prior to any outing. This sheet also contains both convoy and passenger etiquettes. Please noteticks and mosquitos may be present at outing locations. We recommend wearing long pants, bringing and applying insect repellant when necessary, and staying on cleared tracks. Less likely is the presence of snakes and leaders will brief you on their likelihood and provide a recommended response. Leaders will carry snake bandages.

Birding Etiquette

Please:

  • Come to each outing with enough fuel in your car for the duration of the days outing, as the convoy will not be stopping for fuel,
  • do not wander off without informing the Team Leader,
  • be aware of potential traffic and keep off the road,
  • be considerate of other participants by keeping noise to a minimum and by letting everyone have a view,
  • experienced birders, please share your expertise and sightings with the group,
  • consult with others in the group before using call playback and only use it briefly and sparingly, if at all,
  • pass on your sightings to the Team Leader who will be keeping records,
  • return to your vehicles promptly when asked to do so, so that all areas can be covered in time.

OTHER BITS

Pets -Although Opal Caravan Park may be pet friendly some of the outing locations are not. As participants are attending an organised campout of, and hence representing, BirdLife Northern NSW, it is requested that pets be excluded from campout activities. However, the caravan park does have several doggy daycare yards. Check out their website for more details

The local Rotary Club will cater an optional 3 course meal at the Opal Caravan Park on Saturday evening.

A ‘Guess the Final Bird Tally’ competition will be held with free entry. Just write the number of your guess next to your name on the competition sheet at the registration desk. The winner will be announced after the birdcall at the final Sunday get-together.

Raffle: We are holding a raffle with an attractive prize to be won. Tickets will be sold from Registration throughto Sunday afternoon. The winning ticket will be drawn during the final birdcall on Sunday evening.

But most importantly, have a great campout!
