Course Content: This course will cover the history of the world, including:discovery and exploration; early civilizations; and major political, social, economic, and cultural events throughout history. Significant historical themes and events will be emphasized.

Student Expectations:

  • Listen to and follow teacher directions
  • Students will be in attendance and on time each day the class is held
  • Students will follow the Bingham High School rules and expectations (dress code, Internet use, etc.)
  • Students will not use cell phones or other electronic devices during class time, unless directed by the instructor. Per BHS policy, such devices will be given to administrators if this rule is violated. Parents may pick up electronic devices from administration.
  • Come to class prepared with necessary materials (books, paper, pen, pencil)
  • Students will show respect to fellow classmates and to the instructor. This includes using appropriate behavior and language and showing respect for people, possessions, and ideas.
  • Positive behavior will be rewarded by bonus participation points, class rewards, and individual student rewards.

Consequences for inappropriate behavior include a warning, loss of participation points, student/teacher conference, or a call or meeting with parents

  • Cheating will not be tolerated and will result in an automatic failing grade on the assignment or test. Additional cheating may result in a failing grade for the semester, and the student will be referred to administration.

Grading:

  • 25% from participation. Students are expected to come to class prepared and to follow school and class rules. Students will have a point sheet to track their daily behavior and participation points. Attendance and tardies are built into this daily point system
  • 25% from evaluations including quizzes and tests
  • 50% from daily work including worksheets, journals, writing assignments, reports, etc
  • As reading is essential to student achievement, a grade bump (example: from B+ to A-) will be given when a student reads a book of at least 150 pages and turns in a one page, double spaced, summary of the text.

Grading Scale:

  • 100% - 93% A82% - 80% B-69% - 67% D+
  • 92% - 90% A-79% - 77% C+66% - 63% D-
  • 89% - 87% B+76% - 73% C62% - 60% D-
  • 86% - 83% B72% - 70% C-59% - 0% F

Late Work:

If a student misses class for any reason, it is the student’s responsibility to meet with the teacher to find out what was missed. The student and the teacher will then decide upon a reasonable timeframe in which the work will be made up.

Attendance:

The award of credit in this class is subject to the conditions outlined in the Bingham High School Attendance policy. Unexcused absences in excess of 3 per class, per quarter, will result in a loss of course credit regardless of the course grade. Refer to the BHS Attendance policy for further guidance or clarification.

Dress Code:

Students are expected to adhere to the BHS dress code policy. Please review the policy and speak with administration for further clarification.

Cell Phones and Electronics:

Cell phones and electronics are to be used solely for educational purposes and only with direct permission from the teacher.
