JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: CARPENTER

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  High School Diploma or G.E.D.

2.  Experience in all types of carpentry and the ability to use all necessary shop and hand tools of the craft, i.e., saw, chisel, plane, portable power saw drill, rivet gun, shaper, planer, jointers, etc.

3.  Five (5) years’ documented experience in the field. Graduation from an accredited technical institute in the field of service may substitute for some years of experience.

4.  Ability to measure and plan projects, develop bills of materials and construct items in accordance with standard practice and appropriate building codes.

5.  Ability to coordinate job with other crafts such as plumbing, electrical, masonry, and air conditioning.

6.  Valid Florida Driver License.

7.  Knowledge of normal safety rules and practices of the carpentry trade.

8.  Experience in repair/replacement of built-up and shingle roofs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy. Capable of lifting and moving weights with prescribed safety limits. Capable of climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and being exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

REPORTS TO: As assigned by Bay District Organizational Structure.

SUPERVISES: As assigned by Bay District Organizational Structure.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Reads construction drawings and maintenance requests to determine material requirements.

2.  Operates a transit level.

3.  Renovates school facilities, erects wood framework for buildings sheathing, partitions, floor joists, studding, and rafters.

4.  Installs molding wood paneling, cabinets, window sashes, door frames, doors and related hardware; builds stairs, forms and pours concrete sidewalks, slabs and fence posts.

5.  Determines materials necessary to repair/replace shingles and built-up roofs.

6.  Cleans up job site and common use areas in Maintenance Department.

7.  Provides and maintains hand tools as specified by supervisor.

8.  Constructs framework using metal studs.

9.  Operates county vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.

10.  Works effectively with co-workers, school personnel and supervisors.

11.  Serves as designated member of Hurricane/Disaster Response team.

12.  Responds after hours/weekends as needed with work schedules adjusted accordingly by Maintenance Supervisor.

13.  Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1.  Successful completion of State and Federal Background check is required for employment.

2.  12 months. Paygrade as established by the School Board in Current Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance evaluated annually in accordance with School Board Policy.
