COURSE PREREQUISITES:None

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A combination of MATH 0003 and MATH 0013. It is a course for students who need to review their basic mathematics and basic algebra skills. Included in this course are operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents, signed numbers, exponents, algebraic expressions, factoring, algebraic fractions, linear equations and inequalities, and graphing. It is equivalent to one year of high school algebra. Lecture 5 hours. No Laboratory.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be prepared for MTH 0123 Intermediate Algebra.

This textbookis packaged with MyMathLab and will cost around $213. If a student purchases just the MyMathLab the cost is $92. This is a unique MyMathLab for this textbook, the other version will not work. One MyMathLab is good for all courses a student takes from this book for 18 months. The students will need the MyMathLab access code to take the Intermediate Common Final Exam. I suggest you write your user name in their textbook so you do not lose it for future semesters.I do not want students put into the position to buy a $92 MyMathLab just for the final intermediated exam! Paper and pencils will also be needed. Students will not be allowed to use a calculator in Chapters 1 – 4 but may use a scientific calculator in Chapters 5 – 12. Do not use calculators on cell phones.

Course Objectives:

General education courses at TCC insure that our graduates gain skills, knowledge, and abilities that comprise a common foundation for their work and personal lives. TCC’s general Educations are: Critical thinking, Effective Communication, Engaged Learning, and Technological Proficiency. This is a college level non-credit math course. It is the obligation of the student to master the material in preparation for a credit level class. As instructor, I will act as a guide and organizer to help you master the required material.

• There will be no make up exams unless arrangements are made prior to the scheduled time.
• There will a final exam (multiple choice).
• The final exam will automatically replace your lowest exam grade, if this improves your grade. If the final exam should be cancelled, the grade will be based on the remaining 850 points. If you miss and exam, therefore getting a zero, for any reason then this would be your lowest exam grade and replaced with the final grade.
• There will be one grade per 3chapters covered in course compass due on the day of the exam for those chapters (see calendar). The homework assignment on course compass is due at the beginning of the class on the day of the exam.
• Computers are available in the math lab to use if you do not have access to a computer at home.

Attendance:

Attendance is necessary for success in the course and will be taken at the beginning of every class meeting. Poor attendance generally correlates to poor grades. Students are responsible for all material covered in every class meeting and any changes made to the tentative schedule, even if absent. Students should be familiar with the College policy on attendance and withdrawal. Any extra credit work done in class will not be available except in person.

to me to egarding this course. TCC will send you information and notices to your “MyTCC” account. You can forward the emails to your regularly used account. However, go into your “MyTCC” account regularly and delete read emails so your box does not become full and you no longer receive emails.

Inclement Weather: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency

situations arise, TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations.

CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE: Open and mutually respectful communication of varied opinions, beliefs, and perspectives during classroom or online discussion encourages the free exchange of ideas that is essential to higher learning and to the ability to learn from each other. No electronic devices are to be used during class time except calculators in the given chapters. Any behavior that interferes with the learning process will not be tolerated. Please, no cell phones during class time, set on vibrate.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the TulsaCommunity College system. TulsaCommunity College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may:

• Require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or test;
• Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question;
• Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student from the class;
• Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester. Faculty may request that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by submitting such a request to the Dean of Student Services.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed3/4 the duration of any class. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for thedeadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with adiscussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact theAdvisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or changeto an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter thefinancial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students mayreceive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves abalance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course andfail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may havefinancial aid consequences for the student.
