Purpose of this assignment
Scenario
You have been asked to build, setup, and evaluate a standalone computer system for gaming and home/office use.
Task 1
Completing this task will involve the installation of hardware and software components.
Your evidence will be the completed task sheets, using screen grabs and photographic evidence.
Hardware practical:
  • Using the task sheet (Task-Hardware Install), record your assembly and disassembly of the workstation.
  • Using the task sheet (Task-Hardware Install), explain the installation and configuration of the Gaming workstation.
  • Using the lab workstations check the system BIOS, to confirm a successful installation of the hardware. Use photographs to confirm you have completed this task and add them to your task sheet evidence. (ie. Task-Hardware Install)
Software practical:
  • Using the task sheet (Task-Software Install), record evidence of the following:
1. Install applications from the Software’ folder
2. Carry out a custom installations
Guidance points:
  • Use suitable tools e.g. screwdrivers, pliers, ESD.
  • Correct Health and Safety procedures must be followed and appropriate safety equipment must be used at all times.
  • This task will be assessed by witness statement
This provides evidence for [P5]
Task 2
Completing this task will involve configuring the computer system to meet the user’s needs. Your evidence will be the completed task sheets, using screen grabs and photographic evidence.
  • Using the task sheet (Task-Software Install), complete individual needs scenario by setting up the system to set requirements.
  • This task will be assessed by witness statement
This provides evidence for [P6]
Task 3
Completing this task will involve configuring the computer system to meet the user’s needs. Your evidence will be the completed task sheets, using screen grabs and photographic evidence.
  • Using the (Task-Software Install), produce a test plan that will confirm a series of tasks have been completed correctly.
  • Ask a colleague to complete your test plan and complete the test plan for a colleague. Include both completed test plans in your evidence.
  • This task will be assessed by witness statement.
This provides evidence for [P7]
Task 4
Completing this task will involve evaluating the performance of a computer system.
Write a report, using the task sheets you have used for this assignment.
  • Using the task sheet (Task-Hardware Install), evaluate the selection of hardware components in illustrated scenario by comparing them with other alternatives you may wish to recommend.
  • Using the task sheet (Task-Software Install), and the lab workstations and other workstation you may have access to identify the tools that can be used to measure system performance.
Guidance points:
  1. These could include Windows System information, Task Manager, CPUz, and any other tools that could be used to evaluate performance.
  2. Suggest how these tools might and can highlight differences in performance.
  3. Annotate your report with screen grabs and photographic evidence.
  4. Minimum of 300 words.
This provides evidence for [M3]
Task 5
Based on your evaluation of performance from previous tasks, produce a two column table report that will explain and justify the improvements that could be made to computer systems. For example what would be a suitable replacement for the current College lab workstations? Suggested column headings:
  • Identify any hardware/software components that may need to be upgraded or replaced; include a hyperlink to the components you select.
  • Demonstrate that the components will be compatible with each other. (e.g. correct RAM type, speed, etc, CPU socket and/or MB expansion buses, power requirements).
  • Justify how each component will assist to increase the performance of the system. Explain why the improvements are necessary.
Minimum of 300 words.
This provides evidence for [D2]
