JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:Animal Management Technician –relief.

LOCATION:The postholder will be expected to travel across all of AskhamBryanCollege’s Centres as required.

SALARY SCALE:£7.38per hour – an enhanced rate will apply for weekend duties.

AIMS OF THE JOB:

  • To assist with the day to day routine husbandry and maintenance duties on the animal unit

DUTIES

  • To carry out routine maintenance of the animal collection; feeding, cleaning etc.
  • To assist with the maintenance of grounds, cages, paddocks and buildings
  • To help maintain equipment for demonstrations and practical
  • To prepare for student practical sessions
  • To keep appropriate records as instructed
  • To assist with school groups, taster days and parents' visits
  • To assist with internal and external visits and open days
  • To produce teaching displays and materials
  • To supervise and manage work placement students
  • To assist Lecturing staff as required
  • To supervise practical sessions and student projects
  • To undertake any other duties relevant to the post as directed by the Senior Technician and the Centre Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

JOB TITLE:Animal Management Technician - Relief

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
KNOWLEDGE AND
QUALIFICATIONS /
  • Good understanding of the needs of various types of animals

  • Knowledge of recent health and safety regulations
  • First Aid qualification
  • Relevant qualification e.g. NVQ Level 3 or Diploma in Agriculture/Animal Care or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE /
  • Experience of working with a variety of animals.

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of animals
  • Experience of dealing with a wide range of clients of different ages and backgrounds
  • Experience of instructing others in practical tasks
