Analysis of Japanese LC Results 2009

An effort was made to collect complete sets of LC results for all students who took LC Japanese in 2009 as part of the PPLI. The following is a summary of data analysis carried out by Gillian Golden, statistician in the DES, accompanied by some key points arising from further analysis of these statistics carried out by the NCO.

  • Percentages adjusted from SEC website to more realistic figures e.g. National Average of A1s as a percentage of grades achieved by all candidates is given as 29%, with native speakers taken out the figure is 7%, closer to the French and German averages.

  • 91% of those who got an A1 were taking Japanese as an extra-curricular subject
  • 80% of those who got an A were taking Japanese as an extra-curricular subject
  • 53% of those who took Japanese as an extra-curricular subject got A or B in HL
  • 25% of those who took Japanese as a curricular subject got A or B in HL
  • 73% of those who took OL Japanese took it as a curricular subject
