February2017

Dear Educator:

Since 2002, the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) has awarded over$95,000 to motivated teachers like you. In 2016, qualifying projects received grants up to $750 per school. Additional information can be found at our web site:

As members of AWMA, we would like to introduce ourselves and announce the 16thAnnual Earth Day Grant program. The AWMA is an international organization of environmental professionals. The main purpose of our organization is to share knowledge about the environment, pollution, and ways to eliminate or reduce pollution. To this end, we would like to announce that the Eastern New York Chapter of AWMA is sponsoring several grants in honor of Earth Day 2017. We would like to assist you in promoting environmental awareness by supporting environmental projects in your school.

If you have an environmental project or event that you would like to have funded, please complete and submit the attached Earth Day Grant Application by WednesdayMarch 29, 2017. Partial or full grants will be awarded for qualifying projects or events based on technical and educational merit as determined by our Education Committee when we meet the 1st week in April. We will consider funding project equipment (such as water testing kits, microscopes, and alternative energy kits), or an event (such as a special program presentation). Preference will be given to projects involving scientific studies (water quality studies, alternative energy projects, projects requiring data collection and analysis, etc.); however, all requests will be given consideration. A list of the 2016 grant winners is attached.

Please refer to the attached Grant Application for the details and deadlines. All grade levels at schools with zip code starting with “12” are eligible. We look forward to hearing from you, and hope that we can assist you in teaching our youth the role we all play in keeping our environment healthy.

Sincerely,

The 2016-2017Eastern New York Chapter AWMA Education Committee:
