1. SSC (Student Success Center) Coaches Needed

The SSC needs coaches for this coming semester/year! The SSC is looking for coaches who have successfully completed ENG3200 (Thermo/Fluids), CE2201 (Structures I), CE3201 (Structures II), CE3101 (Civil Materials), CE3620 (Water Resources) and CE3501/3503 (Environmental Engineering).

Applications can be found outside of the Student Success Center (102 Dillman) and can be dropped off in mailbox 47 across from the SSC in front of the Engineering Fundamentals office.

Being a coach is a great opportunity to help other students, looks good on a resume, and is a great way to brush up on skills used on the FE. If there are any questions you can contact Steve Roznowski at .

2. FE Review Books for Sale

ASCE is currently selling FE Review Books to both members and non-members. Please contact Brian Geiger () or Kurt Schimpke () if interested. Books can also be bought during ASCE office hours, which are posted on the office (Dillman 101) door. The prices are as follows:

New this year – Spring Session

NASA-USRP offers undergraduate students across the United States internships at NASA centers under the supervision of technical mentors. This prestigious program seeks rising sophomore, junior and senior students in the disciplines of engineering, math, computer science and life/physical sciences. Students may apply for 10-week summer session and 15-week spring or fall session. NASA-USRP provides students with hands-on, real-life research experiences that challenge, inspire and bring practical application to complement the students’ academic education. Stipends are $6,000 for the summer session and $9,000 for fall and spring, plus a round-trip travel allowance. Application deadlines are:

This job will require the management of various geophysical tasks from proposal assistance (scoping and costing) to project task implementation, completion, and report preparation. This person must be able to assist in the performance of geophysical site characterization projects throughout North America. Additional interest in field hydrogeology techniques including well and aquifer hydraulics, conducting aquifer tests, well and well field installation, and knowledge of groundwater flow and solute transport modeling is a plus. This person will be involved in all technical job related activities, production of project documents including proposals, quality assurance project plans, health and safety plans and data reports, and provide support to the Minneapolis Office in the areas geophysics, hydrogeology and geology.

Accountabilities

This person will be responsible for managing project tasks with an emphasis on geophysical site characterization and possible hydrogeological site assessment and reporting. They will be capable of presenting project results to the Senior Technical and or Project Manager for use in formal settings and presentations to regulatory agencies and the customer.

Knowledge

Bachelor of Science in Geophysics or Geology/Hydrogeology with at least 2 years experience in the geophysical sciences and/or environmental industry including field experience and knowledge of field investigation techniques. Masters degree in geophysics or geology accepted as 2 years of work experience. Excellent technical writing and communication skills, attention to detail, an ability to follow complex requests, and a strong work ethic is essential.

Knowledge of geophysical(e.g. GeoSoft), GIS (e.g. ArcView) and data management (e.g. MS Access) software is preferred. Travel is expected. Experience with UXO will be highly regarded.
