Dear Parents/Guardians of the class of 2012,

As educators, we believe that our students have the best possible chance of gaining academic success when they are well matched to the courses they have signed up for and are fully aware of the demands that will be made of them over the course of the year.

Successful IB and AP students are not only academically able, with a high level of skills and the ability to think critically, they are also motivated, hard working and committed to the courses they have embarked on. They attend school regularly and on time and meet all their deadlines for class work and internal assessment.

A successful education is always the result of a partnership between you, your daughter or son and us.

In order to make these beliefs explicit, this year we are making some changes in the way in which we communicate with students and parents about the IB Diploma Programme and the AP Programme at ACS Cobham and the way in which we support students who undertake these rigorous, academic programmes.

We are therefore introducing an IB and AP agreement so that both students and families are fully aware of the responsibilities they are taking on and the workload that is involved.

We are also publishing for the first time a comprehensive list of internal IB deadlines for IB candidates of the class of 2012, which should be read in conjunction with the IB agreement. A finalised version of this will be made available at the start of the coming academic year. We would like to express our gratitude to Camilla Mullertz for overseeing the compilation of this list. We intend to continue to publish such lists in the future.

We would be most grateful if you could read and discuss the enclosed documents with your daughter/son and return ONE signed copy to Ms Mortimer by Tuesday 23rd August 2011. Please sign and keep the second copy for your own reference. Our intention is to support your daughter/son throughout their IB/AP classes and help them to complete their work in a timely manner. For that we very much rely on your understanding and support.
