About Responding to Conflict (RTC)

Responding to Conflict is a small and dynamic NGO that works to transform violence and build peace. Founded in 1991 we have worked with 1000’s of people from over 70 countries and in some of the world’s most violent conflicts. We provide support and training for people in conflict situations so that they are able to develop the skills they need to build peace in their own communities.

About the role

RTC is offering an exciting opportunity for a talented intern to gain valuable experience working with a leading UK peacebuilding organisation whilst developing valuable skills in Fundraising, Supporter Relations and Events Coordination.

Working with RTC’s small Fundraising teamyou will have a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with funders and supporters and engaging their support. This role is not just about filing or stuffing envelopes; we want someone who will bring energy, enthusiasm and initiative to our team and get stuck in. You will be involved in everything from brainstorming fundraising initiatives and developing a major donor strategy toorganizing events and making applications.

Key responsibilities will include

FundraisingCoordination

  • Working with Fundraising team to develop a major donor fundraising strategy
  • Conductingprospect research on individuals and organisations (e.g.major donors and charitable trusts)
  • Working with the Fundraising team to identify possible funding sources, research their priorities and apply for relevant funding through written applications
  • Building new and developing existing donor relationsthrough email and telephone enquiries, writing letters and drafting funding reports
  • Supporting the development of project fundingapplications
  • Drafting copy for the RTC website
  • Interviewing people for case studies
  • Organising mailings and maintaining the contact database
  • Assisting in the delivery of challenge event fundraising , supporter care and contact with challenge participants
  • Working in close collaboration with the Communications team to organise fundraising events and campaigns

Other duties

  • Some general administration duties such as answering the phone, responding to enquiries and welcoming visitors

  • Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use own initiative within specified guidelines
  • Ability to network and influence
  • Ability to build relationships with key individuals and organisations
  • To be creative and enthusiastic
  • A demonstrable ability to work as part of a team
  • Well versed in Microsoft Office applications
  • Target driven
  • An interest in peacebuilding and enthusiasm for the work of RTC
  • Excellent Internet research skills

Additional desirable experience

  • Experience of producing effective communications materials e.g. newsletters
  • Experience in a fundraising role or of raising funds for charitable purposes
  • Experience of communicating messages to a range of audiences
  • Experience of organizing events

The internship is3 days a week from 9.30am– 5pm,for a period of six monthsincluding a one month probationary period. It will be based at our office in south-west Birmingham. The role is unpaid but local travel in Birmingham and a lunch allowance is provided (max. £8 per day).

Please note that we are unable to meet relocation expenses.

The closing date for this post is 12pm Wednesday 10th February. Interviews will be heldon Wednesday 17th February, with a start date estimated for week beginning Monday 7th March.
