Officials Training, View and HireSession

University of San Diego

June 17-19th, 2011

Dear Official,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding being evaluated for consideration to be hired as an ABA Basketball Official and becoming part of the ABA Officiating Staff for the 2011-12 season.

The American Basketball Association (The ABA) just completed its 11th season this past March with the ABA Final Four Tournament held in Winnie Texas. As the ABA moves into its next season, there have been announced plans of many new teams throughout the country. (This info can be found on ).

With the current structure of existing ABA teams nationwide and the planned additions, there remains the need for further recruitment and hiring of officials to current ABA Staff. With this said, we will be conducting a view and hire session at the University of San Diego, June 17th-19th, 2011. It will be held in conjunction with the USD team camp and our very own ABA staff of Officials Developmental Session.

While attending this session, you will have the opportunity to not only communicate, be observed and be evaluated by current ABA staff Officials, but you will also actually work games here at USD with many of them.

You will not have to come into this training, view and hire session knowing our ABA rules…You will simply bring with you your regular rules knowledge and mechanics that you utilize within the NCAA. We utilize all the basics of the NCAA rules and mechanics.

As mentioned, at this point in time, the league is in need of hiring many new officials from throughout the country. This camp will provide for you a great opportunity to be seen, evaluated and hired!

If you are interested, please print out the application form (below) and mail it back accordingly as to what is communicated on it. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly.

Hopefully you will take advantage of this excellent opportunity to be hired and given the chance to work this level of basketball …And by doing so, advance yourself in your overall skill sets as an official!

Sincerely,

Tom Chichester

ABA Director of Officials
