Three inspired days of creativity and collaboration, where you and 20 other like-minded young people will explore and develop your love of writing in a fun, relaxed, and supportive environment. Sound good? Then Young Writers Camp is for you!

Led by a team of professional writers, this immersive program of specialised workshops is designed to develop your skills, expand your creative potential, and identify real pathways to get your writing out into the world.

All successful and unsuccessful applicants will be contacted via email by Friday 17 March 2016.

State Library is looking for 20 young people who are committed and passionate about developing their creative writing practice.

In assessing applications the panel will use set criteria and take content gathered within the application into account.

Please keep a copy of your application for your records.
The completed application must be emailed to before 5pm, Wednesday 15 March 2017.

Please note: These workshops are heavily subsidised by State Library of Queensland for affordability and accessibility to as many young people as possible. If however, the fee is a genuine barrier to participation, please let us know in an enquiry via phone or email.

Terms and conditions

If successful, one place in the word up program will be offered. The cost for each place is $100, State Library is subsidising the remainder of the workshop cost, and the workshop is valued at approximately $400 per participant. If the fee is a genuine barrier to participation, please let us know.

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Available for the full period of the workshops from the 3-5 April 2017.
  • Aged 15-17 at 3 April, 2016.
  • Able to travel independently to and from the State Library.
