Oil Content

Oil content of important breeding materials and IVT/AVT quality trials were evaluated at different centres Kanpur, Bharatpur, Kangra, Pantnagar, and Hisar. Among the 33 genotypes analyzed in various centres, oil content ranged from 29.1 % in RGN 73 (Ludhiana) to > 40 % in RH 749 (Bharatpur & Ludhiana), PDZ-6 (Hisar & Pantnagar), PDZ 5 (Bharatpur), NUDB-26-11(Bharatpur), RLC-3(Bharatpur), EJ8-118(Hisar), EJ8-369(Bharatpur), PDZ1(Bharatpur, Hisar), PDZ4 (Ludhiana), EJ8-379 (Bharatpur).

In Toria (IVT) 17 entries of two locations in Kangra and Una were evaluated for oil content. The oil content was found to vary from 40 to 41.6 % for Kangra and 40.3 to 41.4 % for Una, respectively. In Toria (AVT) 8 entries were evaluated for oil content. The oil content was found to vary from 39.3 to 41.2 %. RL-JEB-52, Kranti (NC), GM 2 (LR) and RRN-871genotypes were found to have high oil content at both locations. In IVT Mustard, 30 entries were evaluated for oil content. The oil content at Kangra was found to vary from 39.0 to 41.3 %. Genotypes with high oil content were NPJ 196 (41.3%), BIO 902 (ZC) (41.2%), RB-77 (41%) and RGN-385 (40.7%). The oil content at Una was found to vary from 39.57 to 41.1 %. Genotypes with high oil content were Sitara Sringar (41.1%), RRN-871 (40.97%), RB-77 (40.87%). RH 749 (F) (40.8%) and RGN-385 (40.77%). In Trombay Mustard, five entries along with one national check, one zonal check, and one local check were evaluated for oil content. The oil content was found to vary from 38.8 to 40.8 %. Genotypes with high oil content were TM-224 (40.6%), TM-172 (40.6%) and TM-215 (40.6%). In Brown sarson 6 entries were evaluated for oil content. The oil content was found to vary from 40.8 to 41.2 %. Genotypes with high oil content were AKBS-7 (41.2%) and AKBS-3 (41.1%).

28 entries including national, zonal and local checks of important breeding materials from Crop Improvement CSKHPKV, Palampur were evaluated for oil content. The oil content was found to vary from 39.1% to 41.4 %. Genotypes with high oil content were 03-456 (41.4%), Zem-I (41.2%), Heera (41.1%), Pusa Jai Kisan (40.9 %) and YRN-6 (40.8 %).

7.1.3 Oil Stability Index of Quality

Oil stability index of important breeding materials and IVT/AVT quality trials were evaluated at different centres Kanpur, Bharatpur, Kangra, Pantnagar, and Hisar. Among the 33 genotypes analyzed in various centres, oil stability index ranged from 0.39 (RL1359) to 4.44 (NUDB-26-11).

7.1.4Fatty Acid Profiling

Fatty acid profiling of important breeding materials and IVT/AVT quality trials were evaluated at centres Kanpur, Bharatpur, Kangra, Pantnagar and Hisar. Among 33 genotypes analyzed, RLC-5, PDZ-6, PDZ-5, LES-52,NUDB-26-11, LES-49, EJ8-369, PDZ-1, Pusa mustard-21,RLC-2, PDZ-2, PDZ-3 & LES-50 were found to have <2 % Erucic acid.Palmitic acid: ranged from 1.78 % (PM 30) to 6.31 %(PDZ-3). Stearic acid:0.28 % (RL-1359)to 3.36 %(LES-49). Saturated fatty acid (Palmitic+Stearic) was recorded to be <7% in all 33 genotypes analyzed.Oleic acid: 6.57 % (RL 1359) to 66.10 % (NUDB-26-11).Linoleic acid: 14.90 % (Kranti & NUDB-26-11) to 41.05-41.07 (EJ8-369, RLC-5).Linolenic acid: 7.26-7.70% (Kranti & RGM-73) to 22.30-22.31 % (RLC-4 & LES-50). Eicosanoic acid: 0.50 % (RLC-4 & EJ8-118) to 22.00% (PDZ-6). ω6/ ω3:0.77 (RH-749 & Kranti) to 4.36-4.96 (Pusa mustard-21& PDZ-4).

Palmitic:ranged from 2.34 to 3.8 %. Kranti (2.34%), RL-1359 (2.41%) and TM-172 (2.46%) showed the lowest levels. Stearic acid:ranged from 1.16 to 2.4 %. Genotypes Kranti (1.16%), RL-1359 (1.22%), Neelam (1.33%) and TM-172 (1.38 %) exhibited lowest values.Oleic: ranged from 8.90 to 66.3 %. Hayola-401(66.3%) showed highest level followed by GSC-7(64.3%), GSC-6(62.6%) and NUDB-26-11(62.42%). Linoleic acidranged from 13.8 to 19.1 %.IVT TCN-15-6 (19.10%) showed maximum linoleic acid followed by Hayola-401 (17.7%), IVT TCN-15-15 (17.4%) and IVT TCN-15-11 (17.3%).Linolenic acid:ranged from 7.42 to 14 %. The genotypes RL-1359 (14.0%) possessed the highest value followed by Kranti (11.99%).Eicosanoic acid:ranged from 1.54 to 12.66 %. The genotypes Hayola-401 (1.54%), GSC-6 (2.3%), TM-224 (2.4%) and RCC-4 (2.5%) exhibited lowest values.Erucic acid:2% was found in genotypes Hayola-401, NUDB-26-11, GSC-7 and GSC-6. ω6/ω3: ranged from 1.14 to 2.3 %. The genotypes AVT TCN-15-17 (2.08 %) possessed the highest value followed by AVT TCN-15-19 (2.07 %) and AVT TCN-15-21 (1.86 %).

Palmitic acid:ranged from 2.90 to 3.7 %. Genotypes MCN-15-3 (2.9%), MCN-15-8 (3.0%) and MCN-15-11 (3.0%) contained lowest.Stearic acid:ranged from 1.5 to 2 %. The genotypes MCN-15-18 (1.5%), MCN-15-11 (1.6%) and MCN-15-16 (1.6%) exhibited lowest values.Oleic acid:ranged from 14.5 to 37 %. The highest value was exhibited by the genotypes MCN-15-14 (37.0%) followed byMCN-15-17 (30.1%) and MCN-15-17 (30.1%). Linoleic acid:ranged from 14.6 to 19 %. The genotypes MCN-15-11 (19.0%) showed maximum level followed by MCN-15-14 (18.4%) and MCN-15-3 (18.0%).Linolenic acid:ranged from 8 to 8.7 %. The genotypes MCN-15-8 (8.7%) possessed the highest value.Eicosenoic acid:ranged from 2.1 to 9.3 %. The genotypes MCN-15-18 (2.1%), MCN-15-13 (2.2%) and MCN-15-28 (2.2%) exhibited lowest values.Erucic acid:ranged from 15 to 33.7 %. None was found to have 2% erucic acid. ω6/ω3: ranged from 1.74 to 2.3 %. The genotypes MCN-15-14 (2.30%) possessed the highest value followed by MCN-15-11 (2.21%) and MCN-15-5 (2.17 %).

7.1.5. Glucosinolate content

Glucosinolate content of important breeding materials and IVT/AVT quality trials were evaluated at different centres Kanpur, Bharatpur, Kangra, Pantnagar, and Hisar. Among the 33 genotypes analyzed in various centres Glucosinolate content < 30µmole/g defatted seed meal was observed in RLC-5, PDZ-5, NUDB-26-11, RLC 3, EJ8-118, EJ8-369, RLC-4, PDZ-1, PDZ-4, PDZ-3, EJ8-379 & RL 1359.

Glucosinolate content among 16important breeding materials of IVT Toriaranged from 44.60 to 89.50 µmole/g defatted meal with a mean value of 70.86 µmole/g defatted meal. None was found to have glucosinolate content level below 30 µmole/g defatted meal. Glucosinolate content of 8 important breeding materials of AVT Toria ranged from 52.49 to 94.05 µmole/g defatted meal.No genotype was found to have glucosinolate content level below 30 µmole/g defatted meal. Glucosinolate content in 18 genotypes of important breeding materials of IVT Mustardranged from 74.03 to 99.51 µmole/g defatted meal. No genotype was found to have glucosinolate content level below 30 µmole/g defatted meal.24 genotypes, along with national, zonal and local checks, of important breeding materialsprocured from Crop Improvement CSKHPKV, Palampur were analyzed for glucosinolate content. The glucosinolate content ranged from 47.33 to 91.84 µmole/g defatted meal.None was found to have glucosinolate content level below 30 µmole/g defatted meal. Antioxidant activities of important breeding materials and IVT/AVT quality trials were evaluated at different centres Kanpur, Bharatpur, Kangra, Pantnagar and Hisar. Among the 33 genotypes analyzed, genotypes showing high Total Antioxidant Capacity and Radical Scavenging Activity are PDZ-6, LES-52, LES-49, RLC-2, LES-50 &PM 30.
