August 21-25, 2017

Monday
Aug 21 (Day 1) / Tuesday
Aug 22 (Day 2) / Wednesday
Aug 23 (Day 3) / Thursday
Aug 24 (Day 4) / Friday
Aug 25 (Day 5)
Mathematics, Accelerated Grade 6
Learning Objective: I will show my mastery of basic computations.
ENGAGE:Take roll
EXPLORE: "Get to know your neighbor" Activity
EXPLAIN:1st day of School Rules and Procedures
ELABORATE:
Introduction – Class Rules and Procedures
Student Information Sheet
EVALUATE: Timed quiz over basic operations of +, -, x, & /.
Handouts: Student Info Sheet; Letter to Parents
Homework: Parent Signature on letter, School Supplies / Mathematics, Accelerated Grade 6
Learning Objective: I will identify and locate integers on a number line.
ENGAGE:Tile Down activity using positive integers
EXPLORE: Students will arrange themselves in order, based on the number given to them without being able to talk.
EXPLAIN: Classroom discussion about greater and lesser values and how they compare and what they would look like on a number line.
ELABORATE:Class practice: Pg. 31-32,34 on starboard or basic skills evaluation (daily grade)
EXTRA PRACTICE: WS Homework/Problem Solving 1-1 (Student chooses 10 Problems to complete, a few from each section) / Mathematics, Accelerated Grade 6
Learning Objective: I will write numbers as powers and represent powers as a product of their factors.
ENGAGE:Warm-up over 1-1
EXPLORE: Show an example of a number written as a power, such as 43, on the Starboard. Students will brainstorm with a partner everything they know about the number.
EXPLAIN: What does it mean?
ELABORATE: Can we write it differently? Can we solveor simplify it?Why do we write numbers as powers?
EVALUATE: Individual practice on dry erase boards or Basic Skills Evaluation (if time did not allow yesterday)
EXTRA PRACTICE:HW: WS Homework/Problem Solving 7-1 (Both Sides) / Mathematics, Accelerated Grade 6
Learning Objective: I will generate prime factorization of composite numbers.
ENGAGE: Warm-up over 7-1(Powers and Exponents)
EXPLORE:Give each student a number on an index card. Students will get up and regroup into 2 sets of numbers using 1rule:cannot be groups of even and odd. Encourage students to look for other characteristics that can describe numbers.
EXPLAIN: What makes a number prime or composite? Show students how to find prime factorization using PPT 7-2 or Word Doc 7-2. stress that order is important when writing factors and exponents can be used (yesterday's lesson).
ELABORATE: Individual practice: Pg. 511 #1- ____
EXTRA PRACTICE:Worksheet: WS Homework/Problem Solving 7-2 (Student chooses 10 problems to complete) / Mathematics, Accelerated Grade 6
Learning Objective: I will use order of operations to solve numerical expressions.
ENGAGE: Warm-up over Prime Factorization
EXPLORE: Show student a numerical expression. All students willsolve it and record possible answers. Can they all be right? Why or why not?
EXPLAIN: Use starboardcreate thinking map of what students know about order of operations. Correct misconceptions and model good examples.
ELABORATE: Individual Practice: Skill building Activity if time allows(or with partner if needed) forincreasingly more difficult numerical expressions.
EXTRA PRACTICE:worksheet: Kuta Software Order of Operations (both sides) (Google Kuta software for free worksheets)
