Remembrance Day Ceremony – Each year at this time, we take a few moments to reflect upon the sacrifices made by soldiers around the world in the past and present conflicts. We hope that through this, and the wearing of poppies provided by the Royal Canadian Legion and the Department of Veterans Affairs, that we remember. The students and staff of St. Mark School will participate in a Remembrance Day Ceremony which will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10th. Parents/Guardians are welcome to join us. Poppies will be distributed to all students and staff. We hope that all who receive a poppy will offer a small donation which will be sent to the Royal Canadian Legion to help recover some of their costs in providing these to us.

Progress Reports and Three Way Conferencing – Start booking now!

All students in Grade 1 – 8 will take home progress reports at the student Three-Way Conferences. Three-Way conferences will take place on Thursday, November 24th from
3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, November 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A confirmation reminder will be sent home with your child on Tuesday, November 22nd. Please call the school office at 659-7390 if your time booked is not convenient for you.

Three Way Conferences for Kindergarten Groups M & T will take place on Thursday, November 24th from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, November 25th from 9:00 – 12:00 noon. Parents are welcome to book their Three-Way Conferences online at You would enter your login and password that was emailed to you last week. You may also book your Three Way Conference by completing the form sent home or by calling the school office or emailing your requested time to . PrK will not be holding interviews.

Spirit Days & House Leagues at St. Mark School

Thank you to the St. Mark School SRC for arranging Spirit Days for our students and staff! Spirit days are designed as emotional support for one's educational institution. This can be manifested in the exhibition of school colors in dress and decoration, attendance of athletic events, or verbally in the form of chants or cheers. These are days when we boost the fun we already have learning! We have four House Leagues at St. Mark School; Earth, Wind, Water, & Fire. Students are placed in a House League for the school year. They collect points for their House League by participating in Spirit Day events. Upcoming Spirit Days in October are as follows. Look for more Spirit Days in upcoming newsletters!

Scholastic Book Fair Comes to St. Mark School - The Scholastic Book Fair is just around the corner! The book fair will be held for 5 days November 21 – 25. Classroom browsing will be on Monday and Tuesday; Wednesday afternoon and Thursday all day will be for classroom buying (no parents at this time please). Thursday evening, November 24 is family night and Friday, November 25 morning only, is also for family buying. This is your opportunity to browse and buy from the book fair with your child or by yourself and enter the draw for $25 worth of free merchandise for your child and $25 worth of merchandise for your child’s teacher. The Scholastic Book Fair is the only fundraiser for our library. Monies raised are used to purchase books and new technology for our library. Please consider supporting this major fund raiser for the library and do a little Christmas shopping at the same time! Knights of Columbus Carol Festival 2016 - For Your Planning Purposes - Mark Your Calendars

This is the 59th Knights of Columbus Carol Festival! The title of the festival this year will be "A Journey to Bethlehem”, and reflectsand the journey of Joseph and Mary back to their roots to celebrate the birth of Jesus. This event features the Catholic School Choirs of Saskatoon and will be staged at TCU Place at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 5th and Tuesday, December 6th. The Noon Festival of Carols takes place from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. on December 5th, 7th, 12th & 14th. The St. Mark School Choir will perform during the evening performance of Tuesday, December 6th. Ticket prices for K. of C. Festival are: $12.00 adults, $3.00 for children (age 5 – 14). Children under 5 free. Noon Festival of Carols - No Charge. Seating is rush seating only.

Family Christmas Celebration – Thursday, December 15th

Due to popular demand, staff will be arranging a Family Christmas night which will take place on Thursday, December 15th. There will be sleigh rides (so dress warm) and a variety of stations for students and parents to participate in as well as an opportunity to join in some Christmas caroling. We’ll be writing a letter to invite a very popular, very jolly guest who wears a very red outfit. Mark your calendar!

The Jumpstart Afterschool Programbegan at St. Mark School on November 1, 2016.The Jumpstart Afterschool Program will provide children and youth opportunity to develop general fitness, sports-specific skills, cultural knowledge and social skills within the context of an Afterschool Program. Program offerings will include fitness and team sports skill development, powwow dancing and other cultural arts, healthy play, nutrition awareness and student leadership skills. It will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdaysfrom November 1, 2016 to March31, 2017. The program is for students ages 9 to 12 (grades 4 to 7). MEND is back! (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It!)

Doors Open to Students Before and After School Hours – CLASSES BEGIN AT 8:40 am

Students should not enter the school before 8:20 a.m. and should not be entering the school after school hours. Supervision is available throughout hallways after 8:30 a.m. St. Mark is fortunate to have an After-School program therefore, our doors are kept open for those parents only to pick up their children.

Merit Awards for Grades 6, 7, and 8 Students - Students who would like to apply for an award need to complete an application on the last 2 days of the month. The applications must be signed by a staff member and a peer.Students must: 1) Be working to the best of their ability; completing all assignments on time and making good use of class time. 2) Show respect for their school, community and self. 3) Be responsible for their own academics, attendance and attitude.Students applying for a Merit Award can look forward to earning prizes and special privileges.Earn 4 or more Merit Awards this year and be part of the special year end celebration. Join Us at Parent and Tot – St. Mark School – TUESDAYS from 9:30 – 11:30

This free program is for families and their children aged 0 – 6 years. The runs til end of June. Come for free play, stories, songs, craft and a snack in the first hour. Parents should be aware that there is a free clinic available at St. Mary Elementary School. Dr. Mehtar is available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You may reach either by telephone at 659-7837 or walk in to the clinic at 327 Avenue N South.
