2016 TEDxErie Performer Application

OVERVIEW

TEDxErie invites local performers to submit an application and work samples for consideration toperform at the November 5, 2016 event at the historic Warner Theater. Two performers will be selected based on the quality of their original work and how well it best reflects the TEDx mission of ideas worth spreading.

Performers can make a bold statement with their act, or can simply be a beautiful “palate cleanser” for the audience between more serious talks. This is also an opportunity to highlight the incredible artistry that comes from our community!

TEDx performers may be:

  • Spoken word poets
  • Singers and musicians
  • Modern dancers
  • Comedians

TIMELINE

  • October 10, 2016: Applications due via the paper application.
  • October 14, 2016: Performers selected and announced.
  • November 5, 2016: Each of two performers presents a 10-minute performance at TEDxErie event.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS

Please submit the following items with a completed application cover sheet.

  • Up to two three-minute work samples on CD, DVD or USB drive. Work must be original to the performer and reflect the type of work to be performed on the TEDxErie stage.
  • Resume / Bio / Description
  • Aone-page statement that answers the following:
  1. Why are you interested in this opportunity in particular? What draws you to want to be part of the 2016 TEDxErie event?
  2. How does your work and/or performance connect to the theme, Don’t Give Up the Ship?
  3. How will this opportunity help advance your work as an artist in the local community?

STAGE DETAILS

  • The Warner Theater stage is approximately 60 feet wide and 25 feet deep. Speakers and performers will share the stage with an art installation that is 8 feet high, 20 feet long, and up to one foot deep.
  • The loading door leading to the stage area at the Warner Theater is 4 feet 6 inches wide and 6 feet 10 inches high. All equipment will need to be brought into the Warner Theater through this doorway.
  • Transportation of equipment and props to and from the Warner Theater, as well as installation and removal of these materials, is the responsibility of the performers.
  • TEDxErie will be providing a sound system for the event. If you require specifics regarding the sound system, please contact Erie Arts & Culture.
  • Delivery of equipment and props will need to occur within an 8-hour period on November 4, 2016. Removal of these materials will occur immediately following the TEDxErie event on November 5, 2016.
  • Transitions will occur quickly during the event. Performers will have no more than five minutes before and after performances to enter and exit the stage.
