State Qualifying: NLC wrestling tournament qualifies 5 wrestlers to the state tournament.

Brackets: This event will be run on Trackwrestling. Wrestling entries must be submitted into the Region 3 4A wrestling tournament on Trackwrestling by noon on Wednesday Dec 7th. 1. Tournaments will utilize the 16-man bracket when 9-12 wrestlers are entered in a weight class. An 8-man bracket will be used when eight or less wrestlers are entered in a weight class.

Reminder to all Coaches that their wrestler’s records must be current and matches marked JV or Varsity in the TW dual statistical program before regions. If teams have this up to date we can use this in the seeding process for regions plus it’s required at state.

Seeding: The Tournament Director and the Board of Control shall use Track Wrestlingto seed the top 6participants prior to the coaches meeting. The following criteria in this prioritized order will be considered in seeding:

The following national criteria was adopted by the Board of Directors in April 2014:

a. Up to 6 wrestlers per weight will be seeded using the Track Wrestling system. All other wrestlers will be randomly drawn.

b. Wrestler must have a winning record.

c. Wrestlers must have wrestled in at least 6 varsity matches.

d. All matches must have been entered into Track Wrestling, including dual and tournament matches.

e. Matches must have been designated as either Varsity or Junior Varsity

Seeding Criteria:

  1. Head to head-strictly head to head record
  2. Record against common opponents-based on winning % against an individual common opponent
  3. Previous State Champion or Runner-Up-first or second place from the previous year, state champion first-then runner-up
  4. Overall Varsity Record – overall winning percentage for varsity matches only
  5. Varsity record at weight-minimum of 3 matches at Region tournament weight class

2. All wrestlers will be considered for seeding with a maximum of six (and seven in special cases) in each weight class being seeded.

3. The pre-seeding will be revealed and explained at the coaches meeting. The Tournament Director will conduct the meeting and allow for a limited amount of discussion. In the event of a lack of consensus by coaches, the Board of Control shall have the final decision on any seeding determination. Unseeded wrestlers and byes will be drawn by the Board of Control once seeded wrestlers are determined.

4. Only one representative (coach) may participate and speak at the coaches seeding meeting.

Additional Information regarding seeding and byes: The NHS federation (National High School rules for wrestling that ASAA and all states follow) does not allow any byes after the first round of championship and first round of consolation. Therefore if a wrestler is withdrawn or doesn't make weight, the bracket must be redrawn. Seeded wrestlers should advance a seed if a seeded wrestler was withdrawn/disqualified from competition. The reason is that number of byes must be equal in each half bracket and each quarter bracket. If the bracket isn't redrawn with seed adjustments the following could occur: Number 1 seed (or any other wrestler) is withdrawn/fails to show or make weight and if he had a bye, there would now be a double bye but at another spot on the bracket there could be no bye. The wrestler he was to meet in the next round would get a bye in the second or third round of the tournament which is not allowed.

The other purpose of moving the seeded wrestlers up a spot if a seeded wrestler fails to make weight is to give each wrestler the best opportunity to advance (and qualify for state possibly) based on their abilities against the competition.
