2015 Metropolitan East Track and Field Trials
10 – 12 Years Para Athletes
Conditions for the Inclusion of Para Athletes
Nominations
Competitors will be nominated through their District for inclusion in the District Nominations and be included in the District team.
Events
Events are conducted following IPC and International Deaf Sports guidelines.
The following track events will be offered to Para Athletes: 100m / 200m / 800m.
The following field events will be offered to Para Athletes: Long Jump / Shot Put / Discus.
Classification
Competitors require an official Provisional / Temporary OR National level classification from Australian Paralympic Committee, Sporting Wheelies, Life Stream Foundation / AUSRAPID or Deaf Sports & Recreation Queensland / Deaf SportsAustralia.
The classes used are in the Australian athletics classification system. The classes are:
T/F 01Hearing impairment (Deaf Sport classes)
T/F 11-13 Visual impairment (Paralympic Classes)
T/F 20 Intellectual impairment (Paralympic Classes)
T/F 31-34 Athletes with hypertonia, ataxia or athetosis who compete sitting (Paralympic Classes)
T/F 35-38 Athletes with hypertonia, ataxia or athetosis who compete standing (Paralympic Classes)
Cerebral Palsy & Acquired Brain Injury (Paralympic Classes)
T/F 40-41Athletes with Short Stature (Paralympic Classes)
T/F 42-46 & T47 Athletes with limb deficiency, muscle weakness or joint restrictions who compete
standing (Paralympic Classes)
T 51-54 Wheelchair (Track Events) (Paralympic Classes)
F 51-57 Wheelchair (Field Events) (Paralympic Classes)
T/F 60 Transplant Recipients (Transplant Sport classes)
Details regarding the classification process can be found at; by contacting the Metropolitan East School Sport Office on 3259 7711.
Athletes with more than one impairment type may be eligible for multiple classifications, should they meet the minimal criteria for each of the eligible classes. In QSS approved competition, athletes may only compete under one classification. The classification must be nominated when entering the relevant event/competition pathway and may not change throughout the course of the event.
TO COMPETE AT QSS EVENTS PARA ATHLETES MUST BE OF ELIGIBLE CLASSIFICATION ON THE MASTERLIST (ATHLETICS AUSTRALIA). PARA ATHLETES NOT ON THE MASTERLIST WILL BE REQUIRED TO PRESENT THEIR CLASSIFICATION CARD/LETTER TO THEPARA MANAGER OR COORDINATOR PRIOR TO THE START OF COMPETITION.
All competitors who have not been officially classified will have to complete classification documentsas a matter of urgency.

Where boys and girls in a classification group throw different weight shot puts, the weight for the girls’ shot put is indicated in brackets.
The Multi Disability Formula
All Para Athletes compete in timed/open finals. Their time/distance for the event is then compared with their disability classification MDS and a percentage calculated.
The medal positions are therefore calculated on the percentages NOT THE TIMES OR THE RACE FINISHING POSITON / GREATEST DISTANCE. The athlete with the higher percentage wins the Gold medal, the second highest percentage the Silver, third highest the Bronze.
This is the International standard for calculating Multi Disability events used in all events except the Paralympics and World Championships where numbers may allow for an individual event for each classification.
