Thankyouforyourcommitmenttoparticipateinthehistoricalre-enactmentoftheLewisClarkExpeditionwiththe DiscoveryExpeditionofSt.Charles,Missouri(aMissourinon-profitorganization,hereinafter“DiscoveryExpedi- tion”).Youhavetheopportunitytodiscovertherewardsofthiseducationalendeavor.Asyouunderstand,volunteer participantssuchasyourselfwilljoininactivitiesonthewaterandonshoretomoveboats,travelbyland,campand provideaneducationalexperienceforparticipantsandvisitors.Asyouacknowledge,theseactivitieshaveinherent dangersthatnoamountofcare,caution,instruction,orexpertisecaneliminate.Pleaseunderstandthatyouarenot required to do any work that you consider to beunsafe and advisesupervisors that you consider it unsafe.

Uponrecognitionofthedangerousnatureoftheeffortsinvolvedandfortheopportunitytoparticipateintheactivity oftheDiscoveryExpedition,bysignaturebelow,youreleaseanddischargetheDiscoveryExpedition,anditsdirectors, officers,employeesandagentsfromliability.Youcovenantwiththemthatyouwillnever,individuallyoraslegal guardiansofparticipatingindividuals,instituteanyactionatlaworequityforanypersonalinjuries,orinjuriesto property,realorpersonal, caused by,or arising outof activity associated with the effortsof theDiscovery Expedition, itssuccessorsandlegalrepresentatives.YoufurtheragreetoindemnifyandholdtheDiscoveryExpeditionharmless againstanyandallcosts,damages,andexpensesthatmaybeincurredbythemasaresultofanylawsuityoumightfile against them.

Weareexcitedabouthavingyouand/oryourchildengagedinthisgreatjourneywithus.Thisendeavorisagroup effort.Thereareothersinvolvedasateam,andsubsequently,itisnecessaryforguidelinesandpoliciestobe establishedandfollowedsowecanbemosteffectiveinaccomplishingthemissionandactivitiesasagroup.You acknowledgethatyou(andyour child)haveread and agreeto abideby thecurrent Enlistment Requirements andother guidelinesandpoliciesestablishedbytheDiscoveryExpedition.Updatesareavailableonthewebsite:

Bysigningbelowyouacknowledgethatyouareresponsibleforanyemergencymedical,medicalorhealthcarecosts incurredforyouoranyparticipantsunderyourcare.Supplementalinsurancecoveragebeyondyourmedicalor homeownerscoveragesuchasDiversAlertNetwork(DAN) obtain.

Photographs,videoandsoundrecordingsofyourselfandothersinattendanceandunderyourcaremaybemadeduring activities.You authorize theuseof such material by theDiscovery Expedition for its purposes.

Enlistment Requirements

1.The enlistment period is from January 1 through December 31 of eachcalendar year.

2.Theenlistmentfeeis$25.00peryear. Yourcheck,madeouttoTheDiscoveryExpeditionofSt.

Charles,alongwithallcompleted,requiredenlistmentformsistobesenttotheaddressshownon the Membership Information/enlistment form.

3.Ifyoudesiretoprovideadditionalsupport,youmaymakeanadditionaldonation(taxdeductible) and be included as an annual member in oneof our supporting Clubs.

4.Members may be provided a membership directory with each member’s email address.If you wish tobeexcludedfromthislist,youmustchecktheappropriateboxontheMEMBERSHIP RENEWAL/APPLICATION.

5.To be a member of The Discovery Expedition of St. Charles, youmust be at least 18 years of age.

6.Junior memberships*areacceptedfor youth ages 11or older,provided theyare accompanied bya parent, grandparent, and/or guardianwhoholds a currentmembershipintheDiscoveryExpeditionof St. Charles Membership Dues for Junior Members are $10.00 per year.

*NOTE: Duetoinsurance restrictions,Junior members cannot be part of a boat crew on the river.

7.TherearemonthlymeetingsattheBoatHouseinSt.Charlesandnewsletters,bothforMEMBERSONLY,whichhelpkeepmembersinformedoftheactivitiesoftheorganization.Allmembersare encouraged to attend thesemeetings if possible.

8.Youwillnotbeallowedtoparticipateinanyregardatanyeventwithoutavalidmembershipcard.

SpousesareencouragedtojoinasGroundCrewiftheywillbespendinganyamountoftimeatDESC eventsoroutwiththeExpedition.Ourmembershipsareindividualanddonotincludefamily members.Therefore,withtheexceptionofchildrenunder10yearsofage,familymembersmaybe required to pay for their meals.

9.Debilitatingillnessesandphysicallimitationsmaydisqualifyyouasanactivere-enactor.However, you are encouraged to join and assist there-enactors asGround Crewfor thoseunable to participate as aregular crew member.

10.Ifyouelecttobeare-enactor,youarerequiredtodressinproperperiodclothingappropriatetotheir roleontheexpedition.Clothingandaccoutrementsmustbeinadherencetothemanualand Outfitting 2005 (i.e. voyager, regular US Army, or Expedition recruit).

11.Itisthere-enactor’sresponsibilitytobecomewellversedontheLewisClarkExpedition.You shouldbeabletopresentoralpresentationsofatleast15–30minutes.GroundCrewshouldbewell versed, but presentations will not benecessary.

12Asyouwillbeportrayinganoriginalcrewmember,itwillbenecessaryforyoutobecomefamiliarwith that individual, and the life that he(she) lived.

13.Yourcrewcompanionshaveputagreatdealoftimeandmoneyintotheirimpressions,anddisplay items. Theft and vandalism will not be tolerated, and expulsion from the crew will result.

14.DESCactivitiesrequirebuildingcomraderyandpositiveinteractionwithpublicincludingchildren.

Profanityandinappropriatebehaviormustbecheckedatalltimes.Consumptionofalcoholwillbe limitedtoafterhours.Excessiveconsumptionofalcoholorinamannerwhichcausesinappropriate behaviorduringparticipationinDESCactivitiesisnotacceptable.Failuretoconformmayresultin dismissal.

15.Youwillbeexpectedtobeoutdoors24-7whenontheriver,sleepundercanvas,eatfoodcookedover an open fire, and keep yourself clean and healthy.If youhaveaweapon, itwillbe clean and ready for inspection at all times.

16.Yourworkdutiesaremany,andyouwillbeexpectedtocompleteassignedtasksasgivenbyany Officer,Sergeant,Corporal,memberoftheLeadershipCadreorBoatCaptain.Insubordinationmay result in consequences up to dismissal from theorganization.

17.Tomakeavoyageontheboats,youmustbetrained.Therewillbetrainingeventsandvoyages periodicallytotrainpersonnelascrewmembers.Personsnottrainedwillnotbeallowedtotravelon theboatsasacrewmember.Groundcrewpersonneldonotrequireboattraining,unlesstheyalsoplan to beon theboats.

18.Yourwordisyourbond.Werealizethatsomemencanonlyparticipateforaweek,othersfortwo, three, or more.If you sign up to be on the riverat a particular time, you are expected to schedule your timewiththeappropriatepersonandbetheretofulfillyourcommitment toserveandparticipatetothe fullest.

19.Ifyouaregoingtoleavethecampforanyamountoftime,etc.,youmustinformamemberofthe LeadershipCadreofyourplannedtimeawayfromcampsothattheydonotrelyonyourparticipation during said time.

20.You will be required to check in with the LeadershipCadre upon your arrival.

21.Ifyouhavenotscheduledwiththecrew-schedulingmanagerandreceivedconfirmation,youmaynot be allowed to participate. It is imperative that strict adherence to scheduling procedures arefollowed.

22.Failuretoadheretotheaboverequirementsmayresultinprobation,suspension,ordismissalfromthe DiscoveryExpeditionofSt.Charles.GrievanceproceduresareoutlinedintheRe-enactor’sPolicy Manual (availableon thewebsite:
