AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE PETER N. FROMMER, DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THE CITY OF AIKEN, ON THE OCCASION OF HISRETIREMENT, TO THANK HIM FOR HISMORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF AIKEN, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the House of Representatives has learned that Peter N. “Pete” Frommer, Director of the Department of Public Safety for the City of Aiken, has retired after more than fortyyears of dedicated service in various capacities to the Department and the City; and

Whereas, Pete Frommer has been a resident of Aiken since the age of six months. In preparation for his life’s work, he graduated from the University of South Carolina at Aiken and the FBI National Academy, 191st Session; and

Whereas, in 1961, when Petewas just eight years old, a few Aiken firefighters spent an afternoon at his elementary school and ignited his imagination and a desire within him that would one day take him from a eight year old volunteer to the director’s position many years later at the Department of Public Safety; and

Whereas, his fulltime career in the fire service began the day after he finished high school, and he quickly rose through the ranks. Beginning as a volunteer fireman for the City of Aiken in 1970, Mr. Frommerwas hired by the City of Aiken as a fire fighter in June 1972 and promoted to public safety officer in 1975. In 1977, the Aiken fire service and police department merged under a new umbrella entity named the Department of Public Safety; and

Whereas, after Mr. Frommer made the transition to policeman, he continued to steadily earn promotions as he learned how to be an effective law enforcement officer. He was named a shift sergeant in 1979, inspector in 1982, division captain in 1994, and Director of Public Safety in 1999; and

Whereas, as Director of Public Safety, Mr. Frommerimplemented new programs and projects, including takehome patrol cars,twelvehour shifts,a specialservices unit for execution of highrisk warrants and extradition of prisoners, mounted patrol officers, organization of a Police Athletic League,and many technological advancements; and

Whereas, active in community service, Mr. Frommeris a graduate of Leadership Aiken County and a board member of both the Aiken County Red Cross and Aiken County United Way, among other endeavors. In his profession, he serves the law enforcement community as the National FBI Association’s secretary/treasurer. He is also an executive board member of the United States Attorney’s Office, the South Carolina State Fire Marshal’s Office, and several other organizations; and

Whereas, Director Frommer has received numerous honors for his committed labors over the years. One of only fifteenpeople in the United States chosen for the 2008 recipient FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award. He was also named the recipient of the 2005 Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement; and

Whereas, he has never forgotten his family with his many duties,findingstrong support in his wife Amy Frommer; his four children; and his five grandchildren; and

Whereas, in honor of his retirement, Pete Frommer’s many friends held a luncheon on January 19, 2012, to celebrate his outstanding career and to thank him for all that he has done; and

Whereas, for more than four decades, Mr. Frommerhas carried out his duties with such excellence that he has earned the respect of all who have had the privilege of working with him; and

Whereas, grateful for his commitment to excellence over half a century, the House of Representatives wishes to thank Pete Frommer for his exemplary service to the people of Aiken. The members hope he will find much joy in the increased leisure time he will soon be able to devote to family, friends, and other interests during a wellearned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Peter N. Frommer, Director of the Department of Public Safety for the City of Aiken, on the occasion of hisretirement, thank him for hismore than forty years of dedicated service to the City of Aiken, and wish him much success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Peter N. Frommer.
